A big thank you to author Asmaa Hussein and followers of her publishing house Ruqaya's Bookshelf. A number of people have sponsored around 66 copies of her book A Place of Refuge for us to send to prisoners.
We’ve sent her book out for years now. Not only does it provide a female voice to our book club members, it shows our prisoners how faith can function as a support during grief and loss--not through the trite phrases that get tossed off at people...but through real grounded struggle and connecting and reconnecting to Allah.

Salaam. It’s me, Asmaa.
I am the personality behind this publishing company: Ruqaya’s Bookshelf. It’s named after my daughter, Ruqaya.
You may have seen some of my writing floating around on social media, or read my two memoirs on grief, resilience, and healing: “A Temporary Gift” and “A Place of Refuge.”
I love writing what moves my heart.
I also love children’s books so, so much. I publish a number of them through Ruqaya’s Bookshelf every year. I accept manuscript submissions from anyone who wants to write for children (details on my website—link in bio).
I couldn’t be happier to develop content for young Muslims. It’s a heavy trust from God, and I endeavour to carry it with integrity and care.
With His help, I’m forging my way in this field—in the hopes that He will accept this striving from me.
Thumb through what I’ve written here, share what you love with others, and buy our lovely books for the little ones in your life.
I am happy to have you here đź’›
