After three days of constant photography we are taking our time returning to our home office of Minneapolis. But it’s a short drive and the weather is beautiful.
Did you know the region of the country where La Crosse sits is called “The Driftless”? It’s a region where the glacial drift@never arrived in the last ice age. It’s not carved out and flattened like it is from Red Wing, Minnesota on north but rather all the hills, valleys, and nooks were created by regular erosion over millennia.
The widest spot of the Mississippi River resides between Pepin, Wisconsin and Wabasha, Minnesota.
While Wabasha is recently famous as the city where the Grumpy Old Men movies were filmed more than three decades ago, it is also known as the birthplace of water skiing. Pepin, Wisconsin, is the birthplace of Laura Ingalls Wilder who wrote the “Little House on the Prairie” series of novels in the early 20th Century chronicling growing up on the prairies of Southwestern, Wisconsin southeastern Minnesota, and Northwestern, Iowa.
While you can drive from La Crosse to Minneapolis in2.5 hours taking the Great River Road (on either side of the river) can be an all day affair and is worth every second you have to apply to it.
