CrossWalk Ministries US

CrossWalk Ministries US Welcome to CrossWalk Ministries US! We are Philip and Becky McGlauflin, and we love Jesus! Yielding to Him makes it possible! Life begins at the cross!

We are Philip and Becky McGlauflin, and our desire is to share the simple message of the cross: Jesus died to replace our old lives with a heart like His. That is the only solution that will ever repair broken lives, families, and relationships. We continue to experience Godโ€™s transforming grace in our own lives and marriage as we surrender to His will and rely on His resources instead of our own.

Despite Philโ€™s dual cancer diagnosis in 2005 that progressed to stage IV in 2019--and the loss of our home to fire in 2009--we have discovered total dependence on Christ to be the key to victory and peace that can never be shaken regardless of our circumstances. We want to share this same hope and freedom with you! In July 2020, we retired from full-time pastoral ministry, but we still share the good news of Jesus in many other ways, including availability for pulpit supply, discipleship, counseling, mentoring, funeral services and more. In addition to our page, we are working on a website with up-to-date ministry information, preaching schedule, blogs, and a YouTube channel with a variety of encouraging and helpful videos. We invite you to join us in knowing the Lord in a deeper way, to see with His eyes, think with His mind, and love with His heart. Please โ€œlikeโ€and follow our page, and subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay connected with us! What a Jesus!

It's been a difficult few months, but we've weathered the storms and Jesus has been with us all the way! He never said He would remove every obstacle from our lives, but He did promise to help us overcome them through His power. We aren't just surviving, we are THRIVING, and you can, too, no matter what you are facing! The trial that is threatening to destroy you, can become a launching pad for a greater purpose in your life when placed in the hands of Jesus! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Tomorrow will be Phil's last arsenic infusion until June 29... a "chemo vacation"! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ Then he will be treated for 4 weeks in July, have a break in August, another month of treatment in September, and maybe another month of treatment in November. (The protocol is 4 weeks of treatment alternated with a 4 week break, and this cycle is done 4 times.) His breathing while seated has improved, but he is still on oxygen 24/7, especially while moving around.

We are looking forward to more normalcy in our lives for the next month! YEEHAAA! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Hi everyone! Sorry we haven't posted an update lately, but we've been right out straight since Phil's diagnosis in February. There's a light at the end of the tunnel though!
He's been having chemo 5 days a week since he came home from the hospital in Boston. The doctors finally agreed that vitamin A (ATRA) was causing his lung damage, and they stopped giving it to him! ๐ŸŽ‰ (It's so odd that the arsenic doesn't bother him, but the vitamin A does lol.) The purpose of ATRA was for rebuilding WBCs that are killed (along with the cancer) by the arsenic. Now if his blood count gets too low, they will just stop the chemo to let it build up again.
Phil has an appointment with the nurse practitioner tomorrow (he doesn't get to see his oncologist anymore, for some reason.) He hopes they will do a bone marrow biopsy asap. If it shows he is in remission, he will have 4 weeks off from chemo!!! Woohoo!!
His breathing is improving slowly, and last week he started driving himself to treatment. He is still on oxygen 24/7, especially when moving around, but his breathing isn't as labored. We are hopeful.
We can't adequately express how much we appreciate all your encouraging messages and prayers. We apologize for our tardiness in writing thank you notes to everyone for your gifts that helped with our many extra expenses the past few months. Thank you for your patience! We love you! What a Jesus! He is renewing and sustaining us!
***Please share because people have been asking us for updates, thanks!***

Your prayers are working! Phil is starting to feel a little bit better! He still needs supplemental oxygen (especially while moving around) but he isn't gasping for breath like he was before. Praise Jesus!

He has resumed the arsenic infusions 5x a week, but isn't having any side effects. The oncologist stopped the other chemo drug (ATRA-- high dose vitamin A) that was apparently causing the lung damage. The chemo port is healing well, and they will begin using it tomorrow for his infusions. Thank you for all you do to faithfully encourage us! God bless you all!

(update on Phil below)
This is one of my favorite verses... life situations that Phil and I have faced both figuratively and literally. We experienced deep waters during the flood of 1987 when our house was surrounded by water with 2 feet of water in the basement. We lost another home to fire when our neighbor burned it down, but through all our trials we can testify to the Lord's truth of this verse: "I will be with you."

When life starts to overwhelm me, I remember His faithfulness to comfort and provide in the midst of chaos. He has proven over and over-- when we have Jesus, we have everything we need. He has turned every hardship into blessings that strengthen our faith, and He is doing that again now.

Phil got his chemo port Monday, but it will have to heal before they can use it. He stopped both types of chemo from last Friday until today because his lungs were bleeding again. The oncologist at Dana Farber recommended alternating the 2 types (arsenic and ATRA) week to week so his lungs don't get overwhelmed. We thank you all for your faithful prayers and encouragement. Jesus has redeemed us, and we are His!

I have shared this image before, but the truth it contains is especially meaningful to us today. Phil's APL leukemia has a cure rate in the high 90s using arsenic trioxide (yup, poison) and ATRA (mega doses of vitamin A.) Ironically, it is the vitamin A that is causing fibrosis in his lungs and he can no longer tolerate the usual cure.
(Note: that doesn't mean Phil is giving up cancer treatments-- just that we are aren't going to stress when the proven method isn't an option. We will let you know what the oncologist says.)

This causes a dilemma for the human doctors, but we serve the Great Physician! As Phil and I prayed and sought wisdom, Jesus showed us that He can't transform our situation as long as we are trusting the "ABC's": Anything But Christ... namely, chemo, doctors, or health insurance.

Whenever we release our stranglehold on any circumstance, surrender it to Jesus and get out of His way, then peace floods in! (Why do we need to relearn this so often??? Ugh) ๐Ÿคฆ When we let go, that's when He can do mighty things to remind us that all our battles belong to Him! We can't wait to see what He has planned! ๐Ÿ•Š๏ธโœ๏ธโค๏ธ

We are in the cardiology department at EMMC for Phil to get his chemo port procedure. He had 5 treatments last week of arsenic and ATRA (high dose vitamin A). The ATRA is likely what caused his initial lung damage, but that usually only happens at the beginning of treatment. The oncologist put him on a massive dose of Prednisone to hopefully prevent any more damage to his lungs, but unfortunately he started bleeding again. We are waiting to hear back from his oncologist at Dana Farber, but we decided to refuse treatment today until we find out what the next step will be.
Phil and I talked this morning, and we know the Lord is allowing this for a glorious purpose! We are in the Refiners Fire, and we want to come through this with such a purity of heart that Jesus can see His reflection when He looks at us. Prayer appreciated! Love you all! โœ๏ธ๐Ÿ’

Phase two of Phil's leukemia treatment starts today. Phase one was called "induction" and was the 5 week hospital stay at Northern Light trying to get him into remission. They didn't quite succeed due to the lung complications, but that improved somewhat during this past week at Dana Farber in Boston. The damage is likely permanent, but there is a plan in place to restore as much function as possible.
Phase two is called "consolidation", and it aims to destroy remaining leukemia cells, maintain remission, and prevent relapse. This takes several months, and a typical chemo cycle is 5x a week for 4 weeks, then 4 weeks off. He will have a port inserted under the skin with a flexible tube in a vein leading to the top of his heart so they don't have to do IVs each day.
If Jesus is putting messages on Phil's heart to share (and He is), then we have no doubt he will have the health and the opportunities to do so. โค๏ธ Comment below if you agree! Have a blessed day!!

I'm back in Boston with my favorite preacher man! We also had a special visit from long-time friends Kurt and Sheila Holman. It was great to share all the wonderful things the Lord is doing in all our lives.

Phil has had excellent care this past week from his medical team at Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital. They have pursued every avenue of testing and treatment to improve his lungs (damaged by chemo for leukemia), and his breathing has improved. He has been blessed to have a private room that is like a small efficiency apartment- bed, couch, recliner, TV, refrigerator, private shower and desk.

He is now on high dose steroids and likely will be for the duration of his outpatient chemo which will begin Monday in Brewer. He is going home tomorrow! Phil is looking forward to sharing all the things the Lord has revealed to him during the last few weeks of this illness. What a Jesus! Homeward bound!

Hi, everyone! Phil was just moved from the ER to a private room (yay!) on the oncology floor. I drove back home yesterday to recharge, get meds, order an oxygen delivery, and other needs.
His medical team is doing an amazing job of caring for him. They have done non-stop testing-- x-rays, CT scan, echocardiogram, barium swallow test, multiple cultures for infections, labs, and more. Unfortunately, his chest CT scan this week compared to March 30 looked a little worse. They may not be able to reverse all the lung damage, but are trying to.
If the doctors can improve his breathing, they are going to do a trial of chemo again and hope to discharge him by Friday or Saturday. He is scheduled to start outpatient chemo next week in Brewer if things go well.
Our prayer needs:
that his breathing will improve
that he won't have side effects from chemo
that our insurance will cover his hospitalization
(and for me driving ๐Ÿ˜ฌ)
Thank you all for your support!!
