A year ago I was in Israel with an amazing group of friends and volunteers working and praying and wishing for the safe return of the hostages and today part of our prayers were answers.

Written by my colleague Rabbi Peter Rigler:

This week’s Haftarah resonates deeply with today’s news: “You shall be gathered one by one, O children of Israel. And it will come to pass on that day that a great shofar will be sounded, and those lost in the land of Assyria and those exiled in the land of Egypt will come, and they will prostrate themselves before the God on the holy mount in Jerusalem.”

The hope for the return of the lost and the exiled is an eternal yearning of our people, and today, as the ceasefire in Gaza brings some of our hostages closer to freedom, we see a glimmer of this prophetic vision. May this moment of reunion inspire continued prayers for peace, healing, and the safe return of all who are still waiting to come home.
