Good Morning!
A reminder that we will be worshipping outside on the back patio of the church this morning. It looks like the weather is going to be perfect after some overnight rain. We will have chairs set up but please feel free to bring your own if you'd like - and dress casually!
For those who join us online - we are going to try to broadcast the service as usual on Deb's cell phone, so please plan to join us. In the event that we are unable to broadcast live, we will at least post video of the service afterwards.
Why are we worshipping outside? Well, here's what I wrote in this week's newsletter, just to remind you:
The heavens declare the glory of God;
the skies proclaim the work of God’s hands.
Psalm 19:1
Friends,
This coming Sunday we are going to try something a little different - worshiping together outside on the church’s back patio.
If you are a newer member or friend of BPC you may not even realize that we have a back patio. We use it every year for our Easter sunrise service and for some church events, but - at least in my time here - we have never used it for a regular Sunday worship service.
It is a lovely spot and – weather permitting – I think we’ll have a wonderful worship service in that setting. We will be celebrating Ascension Sunday – that moment when Jesus ascended into heaven – and I think the back patio will be the perfect place to do that, there under the open sky.
We will be able to enjoy the sounds of God’s creation, too, in a way we can’t when we are in the sanctuary. Instead of a piano, the birds will accompany our singing and we’ll also hear the sound of the wind – God’s breath of the Spirit – in the trees. And we’ll have a great view of that beautiful hillside with the cross silhouetted against the sky.
So please join us on Sunday – regular time, slightly different location! We will have chairs set up, but if you’d prefer to bring chairs of your own, we invite to do so. We will have a couple canopies for shade as well. Dress casually and invite a few friends!
I am looking forward to it, and I am grateful to the Worship committee for the great idea and the willingness to try something new!
Peace,
Pastor Steve
