Following Jesus is easy when life is steady.

But what happens when the pressure comes?

In John 18:12-18, Peter is afraid, uncertain, and trying not to be noticed. He loves Jesus, but fear begins to take over.

We have all had moments like that.

The good news is this: Peter’s failure was not the end of his story.

Jesus knew what Peter would do, and He still went to the cross for him.

Your worst moment does not have to define your future.

Have you ever faced a moment when everything seemed to be falling apart?

In John 18:1–11, Judas arrives with soldiers, torches, and weapons to arrest Jesus. The disciples are confused, Peter reaches for his sword, and darkness appears to be winning.

But Jesus was never out of control.

He knew what was coming. He stepped forward willingly, protected His disciples, corrected Peter, and continued toward the cross. Jesus was not overcome by His enemies. He chose to surrender because He had come to stand in our place.

There are times when life feels out of control. Plans change, people disappoint us, and fear tells us we need to take matters into our own hands. But the same Jesus who remained in control in the garden is still in control today.

We may not understand everything He is doing, but we can trust the One who gave Himself for us.

This Sunday, we will be looking at one of the most personal prayers Jesus ever prayed.

In John 17:20-26, Jesus prayed not only for His disciples, but for everyone who would one day believe in Him. That means He was praying for us.

He prayed that we would be one.

Not that we would all think alike. Not that we would all have the same background or the same story. But that we would be united in Him.

In a world that is so quick to divide people, Jesus calls His church to something different.

He calls us to love one another.
To forgive.
To walk together.
To show grace.
To let the world see something real in the way we live.

Jesus said our unity would help the world believe that the Father sent Him.

That makes this very practical.

How we treat one another matters.

How we handle disagreements matters.

How we respond when someone lets us down matters.

How we love people who are different from us matters.

People are watching, and sometimes the clearest picture they will ever see of Jesus is the way His people love one another.

Join us this Sunday at 10:45 am as we look at John 17:20-26 and the prayer Jesus prayed for His church:

“That They May Be One.”

This Sunday we are continuing in John 17 with a message called

Living in the World Without Becoming Like It.

Jesus never prayed that His followers would be taken out of the world. He prayed that we would be protected, changed by the truth, filled with His joy, and sent into the world with purpose.

That still matters today.

We live in a world filled with pressure, temptation, confusion, and voices pulling us in every direction. So how do we stay faithful to Jesus without becoming isolated, judgmental, or shaped by the very things He has called us out of?

John 17:13-19 gives us a clear picture.

Jesus calls us to live with joy that is deeper than our circumstances.

He calls us to stand for truth without becoming harsh.

He reminds us that we have a real enemy, so we need prayer, Scripture, accountability, and one another.

He asks the Father to sanctify us by the truth, which means God is still working on us, changing us, correcting us, and making us more like Christ.

And then Jesus sends us back into the world.

Not to hide.

Not to fit in.

Not to act like we are better than anyone else.

But to live in such a way that people can see the difference Jesus makes in a real life.

Maybe that is the question for all of us this week:

Is the world shaping me, or is Jesus changing me?

You do not have to have a perfect story for God to use you. You just need to be willing to let Jesus keep working in you.
