Council of Parishes

Council of Parishes Council of Parishes The Council of Parishes was formed in 2004 in response to closure of 80 parishes in the Archdiocse of Boston.

The Council of Parishes is a group of committed concerned Catholics formed to support parishes subject to closure; who seek options other than the closure of vibrant parishes as solutions to the shortage of priests and the financial distress in the Boston archdiocese and who provide a forum for parishes and laity to communicate with the archdiocese about issues of concern.

The committee at St Stan’s in Adams Mass attended our Council of Parish meetings in Wellesley. They were lucky enough to be reopened. The fetus now looking for donations to help with building repairs for this historic church.

A wonderful article by Arthur McCaffrey to commemorate all our hard work to keep parishes open. We showed the way to many parishes across the country. Some churches remain, some are gone, but our communities are strong and have emerged in spite of the Archdiocese of Boston.

An interesting article about a church in Fall River, MA. Given the limited spiritual support (2 Masses per year) Is the diocese really wanting the parish to succeed or waiting for its failure? Our friend, Brody Hale, is assisting this parish as well as many others.

In Fall River, a group of parishioners won the chance to run their crumbling church. If their experiment works here, it might just work anywhere.

The Community of St. Luke is in Framingham. On the South Shore, visit St. Frances Cabrini in Scituate on Sunday mornings at 10 am. At these churches, ALL are welcome to join and participate in all capacities.

The Roman Catholic Church is still the biggest religious institution in the United States. But fewer and fewer Americans are identifying as Catholic, and independent congregations are drawing some with an openness to concepts and stances the Roman Catholic Church eschews.
