This coming weekend marks the final weekend of the choral season before the Choir goes on summer hiatus.

On Saturday, June 6, at the 5pm we will celebrate all the music ensembles of Christ Church Cranbrook: the Cranbrook Ringers, St. Francis Choir, Choristers, Christ Church Choir and the Parish Choir.

A few additional action shots from our Admission of Choristers Ceremony at Christ Church Cranbrook earlier this month. We are so proud of these young people! They completed a year-long curriculum covering reading music, how to behave in rehearsals and services, vocal training, and more. In this ceremony, they promised to do their best, and were vested with the white surplice to show that they are now full choristers.

What a GREAT day for us at Christ Church Cranbrook! We had Admission of Choristers Ceremony at our main 10 AM service where 6 young singers ages 8-9 who have completed their year of training were welcomed as full choristers. They were vested with the white surplice by an older chorister and received a new hymnal with their name embossed which is theirs for life. They will now sing all choir pieces as full members of the choir. We are enormously proud of them!

Join us in person or on live webcast THIS FRIDAY, May 15, for a memorial concert at Christ Church Cranbrook for John Repulski. John served as our Director of Music from 2003 to 2014.

We’ll have a wonderful group of singers, including many professional ones, coming together to perform pieces John loved in concert directed by Jonathan Ryan with Rudy de Vos on organ and piano, our present day Director and Associate Director of Music. We’ll also have a few reflections, and conclude with internment on the church grounds and a reception. This the opportunity for those in Southeast Michigan to remember and celebrate John, so please join us Friday. The more, the merrier, so please share this post and information to help spread the word!

COME SING WITH US!

Christ Church Cranbrook (Episcopal) in Bloomfield Hills, MI has a TENOR 2 staff singer vacancy starting in September.

Regular time commitment includes a Wednesday night rehearsal (7:15 - 9:15) and Sunday morning (8:45 - 11:15ish) each week. Once a month, a big choral evening service, like Evensong or Lessons & Carols, is sung at 5:00 with a 3:30 call time on Saturday (one is on a Sunday night). Mandatory calls are Holy Week, Easter Sunday, and Christmas Eve, and the rehearsals prior.

A strong choral background, superb sight reading skills, and an enjoyment of singing in a healthy, non vibrato choral sound are essential. Additional opportunities to sing as a cantor/soloist are available depending on interest in the summer, the weekly Saturday night service, special music services (like the annual Requiem), and for weddings and funerals.

The Christ Church Cranbrook Choir is an all-auditioned SATB choir that strives for the highest level of excellence. Although 14 of the approximately 32 singers are staff singers, all hold themselves to a professional standard. Repertoire is rooted in the Anglican cathedral choral tradition, regularly includes all eras and multiple styles, and can include advanced, challenging pieces. Several times a year, the Choir is joined by orchestra or brass and timpani. It’s a really great group!
