Luke 17:11–19
On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” When he saw them he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went they were cleansed.
Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus’ feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan.
Then Jesus answered, “Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?”
And he said to him, “Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.”
Y’all, Jesus cleansed ten lepers… but only one returned!!!!! And the one who came back was a Samaritan… the foreigner… the one nobody expected!
All ten cried out for mercy.
All ten obeyed His instruction.
All ten were cleansed as they went. But only one turned back.
Only one praised God with a loud voice. Only one fell at the feet of Jesus and gave Him thanks. And only one heard Jesus say that his faith had made him well!
The phrase translated made you well comes from the Greek word SoZo. Meaning saved, healed, delivered, MADE HOLE!
All ten were cleansed… but the grateful one returned to the feet of Jesus and received MORE!
He didn’t just recognize what had happened to his body. He recognized WHO had done it! The other nine received the blessing and kept walking. The one received the blessing and returned to the Blesser. And Jesus noticed who came back… and who did not.👀 Gratitude brought him back to the feet of Jesus!
Lord, never let me become so focused on what You have done for me that I forget to return and give You praise. I do not want to receive Your help and simply keep walking. Thank You for cleansing me, saving me, healing me, and making me whole!
