Powerful statement. I too am called to coach but not football players, no, a group even more important, Youth Pastors.

I started Catalyst Coaching about 15 years ago because I saw the need for youth pastors to have someone in their corner, consistently, reminding them that God loves them, not the ministry, their work matters and someone believes in them.

There have, sadly, been many churches I've worked at where I did not receive the support I needed either spiritually, emotionally or financially. This is, unfortunately, the norm.

I recently coached a brand new Youth Pastor at his first church and after our six weeks of coaching here is one of the things he shared with me,

"The coaching was especially valuable in helping me better understand the culture and dynamics of our church and how that context shapes youth ministry. It also helped me clarify what is realistically helpful and sustainable in my role as a youth director.

One of the most significant factors was having space to process what was happening in our church and to think intentionally about volunteer recruitment. Being able to reflect on challenges out loud and receive feedback helped me grow both practically and emotionally in my role."

Youth Pastors, especially new ones, must understand the context of the systems they are working in if they are to be successful.

The calling to coach is important but so is the calling to get coaching.

Yes, it's been a few weeks since I have posted an episode and this is intentional. For those who may have missed it, in my last episode I share about the the decline of listenership as compared to last year and I said that I may pull back to 2x a month or even once a month.
