Baritones or Basses Out There?
East Lake United Methodist Church in Birmingham is looking for some guys to join the choir! In fact, everyone else is welcome and wanted as well.
We are a proactively diverse, Reconciling, congregation that is small but mighty! We don't care who you are, where you've been, where you're headed, or whom you love!
We focus on God's love in Jesus. One of the ways to do this is through Ministries to the community. There's the Farmers Market, thrift store, food co-op, diner, and Saturday enrichment activities for children, to name a few.
There is an alternative worship service at 11:00 on Sunday mornings, if you prefer more contemporary music, along with a small band. It meets in our Chapel.
However, the choir sings in the 9:00 traditional service, focusing on sacred / classical choral literature. We sing with a pipe organ that was completed in 2016. The choir rehearses once a week, prior to the 9:00 Sunday service, never beginning earlier than 8:00. Right now, alas, we sing with masks on!
We also have Lessons and Carols before Christmas, and Voices at the Cross on Palm Sunday. Others also join us to sing for these two worship services at 2:30 on Sunday afternoons, with rehearsals at 9:30 the six Saturdays prior.
It is very important to us that we not take our friends away from their own churches, hence the Saturday rehearsals and Sunday afternoon services. HOWEVER,
If you are not actively singing in a choir on Sunday mornings, and enjoy sacred choral music (or if you know someone who fits that bill), please Messenger me.
And if you might think that I am passionate about East Lake Church, that I eat, sleep, and breathe the place, you would be correct! I have been here almost 21 years, been on the payroll of four other denominations previously, and there is no place I would rather be! I thank God for the privilege of being here.
Thank you! Everyone take good care.
Love,
Barry
