Little information can be found on Harris Cemetery in Shelby County, Alabama.

It is however the final resting place of Kevin's third great-grandaunt Sarah Jane Bailey Overton.

Harris Cemetery was established 1852. Travel U.S. Hwy. 280 West. Turn right on Alabama Hwy. #119 North and travel toward Lake Purdy. Cemetery is located on right after passing Calumet Meadows subdivision and before John Deer Landscapes (7347 Cahaba Valley Road).

A quiet cemetery nestled along Hollywood Boulevard serves as a testament to the area’s early pioneers, many of whom played pivotal roles in shaping the communities of Mountain Brook and Homewood.

Union Hill Cemetery is the final resting place for numerous settlers whose influence extended across Jefferson County. Some of the oldest headstones in the cemetery date back to the mid-1850s — marking the graves of families whose descendants helped mold the growing cities around them.

To the east of the cemetery once stood the Union Hill Methodist Episcopal Church. Founded in 1867 near Irondale Furnace, the congregation relocated to Union Hill in 1873. The church building, completed a year later in 1874 on land donated by Pleasant H. Watkins, became a central gathering place for worship and education.

In 1928, the church underwent significant renovations and was renamed Canterbury Methodist Episcopal Church. Union Hill School opened inside the church soon after construction was completed. For years, it served as an educational cornerstone for local children until its closure, which coincided with the opening of Shades Cahaba School.

It remained a local landmark until its eventual demolition, which occurred during highway improvements to U.S. 280.

Though the building no longer stands, the Union Hill site remains a vital link to Shades Valley’s past, preserving the stories of the families who laid the foundations for the modern cities that followed

Patton Chapel Cemetery in Hoover, Alabama, serves as the resting place for several individuals named Bailey. My paternal great-grandmother was also a Bailey, and through Julie's diligent research, we have discovered numerous family members throughout the region. As of this writing, we are uncertain if these particular Baileys are related to our family, but I did come across something quite peculiar. In one section of the cemetery, there are several unassuming flat markers for Baileys, arranged in a row. The earliest death date among them is 1917, and the latest is 2007. All of these markers are of the same type and simply bear the inscription "Resting In Peace"; however, they are not arranged in chronological order. Additionally, there is another marker identical to these situated right beside them, bearing the name Curl. Could there be a familial connection there? In a different section of the cemetery, there are four more Baileys with the exact same type of markers, yet they indicate more recent burial dates of 1984, 1994, 2021, and 2023. Perhaps these Baileys are related to the Muirs, as we both seem to share a penchant for being cheap.

Patton Chapel Cemetery in Hoover is also listed as Hoover First United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The church that manages it is Hoover First United Methodist Church at that same address.

This is one of the older cemeteries in Hoover. The Hoover Historical Society notes that in 1866, Robert Patton donated land for a church used by Methodist worship and a school with an adjoining cemetery in the Patton Chapel area.

That original church / cemetery site is what became Patton Chapel and later Hoover First UMC.

Located in Montevallo, Alabama on Cemetery Road, also known as Shelby County Highway 73,
just off Shelby County Highway 25.

The Hissop Concord Church Cemetery, also known as Concord Methodist Cemetery, is a historic rural burial ground in Coosa County containing around 150 to 170 recorded graves.

It is located about 0.7 miles north of the community of Hissop near Rockford, Alabama.

Historically tied to the Concord Methodist Church (Hissop United Methodist Church).

Features a prominent memorial marker for Mack and Maggie Howard, local benefactors who dedicated their estate to the perpetual care of the grounds.
