Scripture records every cry of the human heart. Throughout his life, Jesus freely chose to experience every cry, including loneliness, grief, frustration, disappointment, and rejection. He was misunderstood, wrongfully accused, ignored, and betrayed. He, who is the Living Water, knew the dryness of the desert. He, who is the well that never runs dry, knew thirst.
On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and proclaimed, “If any one thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He who believes in me, as the scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart shall flow rivers of living water.’” (John 8:38-39)
There is a deeper well of life within us that our thirst leads us to find—a river of grace that sings the joys of resurrection. In other words, longing for the Lord is to receive the promise that he is with us.
