GATHERING
PRELUDE
WELCOME:
Welcome on this second Sunday after Pentecost. Spring warms up to summer as
fireflies test their lights in dark star lit pines.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
CENTERING THOUGHT and SILENT PRAYER: adapted from Hosea 6:3 - 6:6
“Let us know, let us press on to know the LORD; whose appearing is as sure as the
dawn, who will come to us like the showers, like the spring rains that water the earth.
For God desires steadfast love and not sacrifice, the knowledge of God rather than
burnt offerings.”
Prayer: Nurturing God, in our heart there are places we have let your word decay and
erode. Help us offer again our steadfast love and rebuild your will in us with the strong
sinews of Your love and mercy.
CALL to WORSHIP:
Rejoice in the Lord! Praise the Lord with instruments and shouts of joy!
God loves justice and righteousness. The earth is full of God’s love.
Let all of creation revel in awe of God, our creator.
God’s love endures forever.
Amen! Let us worship together.
*HYMN: PH #220 All People That on Earth Do Dwell
*CALL to CONFESSION:
Jesus tends the wounds of a broken world, and binds up the brokenhearted. By faith,
let us confess our need for healing:
3
*PRAYER of CONFESSION:
Holy God, we confess, a bit pridefully, that we appreciate decency and order,
forgetting that we seek the order that is of our own making. We confess that clear
rules and social norms give us comfort, forgetting how many of your beloved
children are hurt and excluded by them. We confess that we place our trust in
ability, strength, and the works we produce, forgetting our total reliance on your
grace. Forgive us, God, and free us to live in courageous faith, that we may abide in
your righteousness. Amen.
*SILENT PRAYER of CONFESSION:
A time for silent reflection and self-examination. Amen.
*WORDS of FORGIVENESS:
Jesus said, “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” We have been blessed with God’s grace and
mercy in abundance, through Jesus Christ. Know that we are forgiven, and be at peace.
*PEACE of CHRIST:
Let us extend the Peace of Christ to those here and beyond the walls of our Sanctuary.
The Peace of Christ be with You!!
And, also with You.
*GLORIA PATRI (PH #579)
Glory to be the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost:
as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen, Amen.

SPECIAL MUSIC: Lisa Griffith
*AFFIRMATION of FAITH: (Nicene Creed)
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all
that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of
God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God
from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all
things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was
incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our
sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On
the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into
heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to
judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the
Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken
through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We
acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection
of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Congregational Sung Response: (PH #138) Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord, God Almighty! v 4
Holy, holy, holy!
Lord, God Almighty!
All Thy works shall praise Thy name in earth and sky and sea;
Holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty! God in three Persons, blessed Trinity!
Great is the mystery of faith.
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will

deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.
