Good morning,
Last night as I was teaching my last class with Kingdom Academy, Walking in the Fruit of Love we hit on honor, as I was teaching I realized that so many people have this backwards. I know you are saying what are you talking about.
Well over the years I have heard from so many how they are not respected or honored by bosses and leaders in their lives but they all expect to be respected and honored, (me included) but I came to realize that I should never expect to be respected or honored by anyone in authority or not in my life but I am to honor and respect them.
We at Revival Culture started our new series this past Sunday the Power of Honor and as I studied to teach I started realizing that we as humans want to be respected and honored but we should never look to be respected and honored instead we should be the ones who do the respecting and honoring.
As I showered this morning reflecting on the passages we have learned over the past 10 weeks in my class and especially how we have learned to over look a suffered wrong, to dig deep into walking in the Love God, He has placed in each of us and started hearing the Lord speak to me.
He said Liz you are not to look to others to see if they are honoring you are respecting you, I have not put that in my word but I have put how you are supposed to honor others, how you are to treat others whether they are kind to you are not, whether they respect you or not. As being Christ like and a daughter of God then it is your job and mandate to walk in submission to the greatest commandment to Love others even when they don't love you.
I have watched many people in the church be hurt by leadership because they feel that their leaders don't respect them or honor what they do or who they are. I have seen it in corporate America people work hard to be recognized for their abilities, to be honored before others to only see other honored but not them, and get really discouraged because of it, their feelings get hurt and they feel like they will never be recognized for all they do.
But as we learn about honor do yourself a favor and look at you not others. We were not called to be honored but to honor others.
Romans 12:9-21 MSG speak of it well. Practice playing Second Fiddle to others.. We should promote others not ourselves, we should go out of our way to esteem others over ourselves. This means every Christian no matter your status in your job or your church.
I said Lord be we all have heard that you have to earn honor in order for others to honor you. But that is not the truth He said honor is not earned it is given whether you are honored or not.. So even the worst of people should be loved and respected in the process of doing things right you are established as an honorable person Christ like. It will give you opportunities to speak into others lives about Him.
I encourage each of you to change your focus on whether or not you are recognized, respected or honored by others but focus on whether or not YOU recognize, respect and honor others around you.
We are all important in God's eyes and that is all the respect and honor we should expect in our lives. Living for Him and being like Him.
My desire in this life is to love deeply, for others when I am gone to say she had her Father's eyes and always loved others even when they didn't deserve love.
Father I pray for all who will read this post that their eyes be open to the Love you have for them and how important they are to you help them realize You are the ONE who matters the most, Help me Lord not to be a person who seeks to have honor given to me but to seek to give honor to others, help me see each person as Jesus saw them from the cross when He new it was all worth it, help me see the gold in each person help me love the nobodies like they are somebodies and help me understand that I am simply on this earth to love you and others, revealing the Love of Christ everyday to others. Stir in each person who reads this a hunger to walk as Jesus did loving all they come around today. In Jesus mighty name, AMEN
