Today is Transgender Day of Visibility.

In a world that is working hard to erase you — you are still here. Still beloved. Still made in the image of God.

No legislation changes that. No headline changes that. No amount of fear changes that.

You are seen. You are sacred. You belong.

Happy Transgender Day of Visibility from Reconciling Ministries Network. 🏳️‍⚧️

Prepare to be swept up in the drama and tragic beauty of it all. It is not just a story we remember, but a way of life we rehearse. We cry out, in both plea and protest, to be saved. We kneel. We wash feet. We serve. We break bread and share the cup. We become what we eat. We sit at the foot of the cross. We weep. We offer our lives. And we love until the day we die. Journey with Jesus through worship on these holiest days.

Last week, Pastor Chet joined faith leaders from around the country – mostly United Methodist – in a public witness for immigration justice. They began the day with a dynamic worship service at Capitol Hill United Methodist Church, with two additional overflow locations filled to capacity! Our bishop, LaTrelle Miller Easterling, preached the sermon and she was accompanied by numerous other United Methodist bishops who either led various components of the service or were simply in attendance to show their support.

They then marched as a group to the grounds of the U.S. Capitol where a public rally followed. But they did more than worship and bear public witness. They then met with members of Congress and their staff. In these congressional meetings, they shared that as people of faith shaped by our United Methodist tradition and its Social Principles, every person bears the image of God and is worthy of dignity, safety, and care.

As the season of Lent begins, we are embarking on a new worship series titled, “Tell Me Something Good: Grounding Ourselves in the Good News this Lent.” On Ash Wednesday, we received the prophet Joel’s plea to “return to God.” It pulses through our being with every beat of our heart. This Lent, we are invited to a journey of sacred return by grounding ourselves in the good news.

Thankfully, the gospel really is good news! It is abundant. And it brings us back to our roots. Following Jesus and living out his teachings grounds us in who God created us to be. In a world too often burdened by bad news, we are called to be a good news people.

We begin this sacred season holding fast to the reminders that will bolster us for the journey ahead. Lenten worship will weave art, poetry, preaching, and song. Join us on the journey every Sunday at 10 a.m. - you are welcome here! 🌈
