A LETTER FROM THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS
“If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.” (I Corinthians 13:1)
We are writing on behalf of House of Love Ministries in Haiti, a small non-profit Christian organization dedicated to serving children in Haiti. The name House of Love describes our heart for children in Haiti, but it comes first from the love we have in Christ Jesus. We know that without love, we have nothing. We want to share our hope and love because life is very difficult in a country that has a long history of oppression, political instability, and natural disasters; we want to help plant as many seeds of hope as we can in the hearts of youth who will one day become leaders.
“Give instruction to a wise man and he will be still wiser, teach a righteous man and he will increase his learning.” (Proverbs 9:9)
One major trial facing Haitian children is the lack of educational opportunities. Haiti has a very limited public education system for young children. Most families must resort to paying for private school, and, for many, this means that they must choose which of their children will go to school, if they can even afford to send anyone. For this reason, our ministry pays for children who are from the neediest families in the south coastal town of Jacmel to attend school. We have been able to raise funds for 11 children for the past 4 years. We would like to continue supporting at least this many, and we need help.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10)
There are generations of Haitians who have grown up without an education, have little or no aspirations for the future, and spend their days wandering without support. We believe that God has created all of us for a purpose, to do good works, and to lift each other up. The youth in Haiti need mentors who will walk beside them. In addition to school funding, for the first years of this ministry, young Haitian men ran a Saturday program for boys. They all would gather every week for prayer, bible study, fellowship, and a meal that for some was the most filling they would eat until the next meeting. We had to pause the program due to a lack of funds, and we are hoping to start it again. Again, we need help.
“And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’ “ (Matthew 25:40)
Will you prayerfully consider partnering with us? We are a small organization, and small regular donations make a big impact. Another way you can help is by help is by connecting us to small groups who are looking for opportunities to give beyond their regular offering at their home church. This giving can be in the form of time, money, or resources. We also need prayer, --and lots of it.
Thank you for reading about our heart for the children of Haiti—and the ways God has already blessed this ministry. If you’d like to learn more or discuss ways you can partner with us, please email us at [email protected]. You can also donate or send us a message at hlmhaiti.org. We’re grateful for your consideration.
Recently, as we were in the midst of scheduling this post, Haiti was hit with an earthquake and a tropical storm within a matter of days. The suburbs of Jacmel were affected greatly by the rain. This only reinforces our desire and resolve to help the children we serve.
