Neshama Honoring every soul’s sacredness with dignity, care, and connection

12/19/2025

Rabbi Dovid Heber shares a short message about Neshama’s campaign: Lighting up Every Neshama

"In Parshas Vayeishev were told of the challenges of Yosef Hatzadik and where he was.

ראה דמות דיוקנו של אביו

In the most difficult of times spiritually - he saw the the face of his father which ultimately saved him.

And then he's taken to the jail in Egypt once again physically he's in the most difficult situation. But Hashem takes him out.

In Parsha's Miketz he's taken out of this most difficult isolation and difficult situation.

Rabbi Reindorp brings this salvation to many individuals in our community in his wonderful organization Neshama.

Lifesaving both spiritually and physically.

I would urge you to help this organization so that he could continue his great work in helping our brothers who find themselves in isolation and in the most difficult of situations.”

Light in the Darkness

Reclaiming dignity, meaning, and a soul-centered future

He met Neshama at what he describes as the most difficult season of his life—when everything felt dark and his sense of self had been reduced to pain, struggle, and labels.

Through Rabbi Reindorp’s steady presence and encouragement, he began to reconnect with his own Neshama and to remember a truth he had lost sight of: that he is still loved and cherished by Hashem and by the Jewish people. That shift—being seen not as a “case,” but as a precious, G-dly soul—gave him the strength to move forward with hope.

Today, he speaks about learning and growing with real aspirations for a beautiful, meaningful, soul-centered life ahead, grounded in renewed connection, dignity, and belonging.

A Mothers Journey Part 4: Table of Hope

Belonging, reassurance, and real examples that healing is possible

In the middle of worry, she found something she didn’t realize her family was missing: a place to breathe. Through Neshama’s Shabbat programs, she felt held by community—supported, seen, and strengthened.

Knowing the Rabbi and Rebbetzen are always a phone call away gives her reassurance when the fear spikes and the questions return.

And when she meets young men at those Shabbat tables who once faced similar struggles—and are now standing, rebuilding, living—she walks away with something precious: not a promise, but a real, grounded hope that there can be light at the end of this tunnel.

A Mothers Journey Part 3: Breaking the Loop

Support that follows him in—and doesn’t disappear when he’s out

She watched the same cycle repeat: hospitalization, medication, release, stopping meds, and then the spiral again—over and over. Each turn of the wheel brought fresh fear and exhaustion, with too little continuity from the outside.

Now, she knows her son has someone steady to talk to—someone who can encourage, listen, and uplift him through the confusion and pressure. With the Rabbi’s regular connection and trusted presence that can reach into the institutions themselves, she’s no longer relying only on sporadic updates or distant decisions—she has “eyes and ears” inside, and a consistent advocate beside her.

A Mothers Journey
Part 2: Not Alone

A private burden meets a shared community

For years, she felt she couldn’t speak openly—because a child’s mental health challenges can feel painfully private, even isolating. She carried the worry quietly, with few people who could truly understand.

Through Neshama, she met other mothers walking the same road, and something shifted: the loneliness loosened its grip. In that shared space—where no one needs to explain the unexplainable—she found community, understanding, and the strength that comes from finally being able to say: I’m not alone.

Held Through the Storm

From isolation to freedom—supported with dignity, faith, and hope

A neshama shares how mental health crises and confinement—first through incarceration and later in a psychiatric ward—left him feeling lost and stripped of direction.-

Through it all, Neshama stayed constant: calling to check in, showing up with regular visits, and bringing practical support when it mattered most, including essentials and Passover food. More than help, he describes receiving spiritual guidance and Torah learning that restored meaning during the darkest stretches. With steady presence and unwavering respect, Neshama helped him reconnect to his Jewish roots—and reclaim a sense of dignity he believed he had lost.

A Mothers Journey

Part 1: Showing Up

When 'recommendations' aren’t enough, presence becomes care.

For 35 years, she carried her son’s mental health struggles largely alone—trying to navigate a system that too often offered advice without follow-through. Each new “plan” felt like it ended where it began: with her holding the responsibility and no one truly owning the outcome.

Then Neshama entered her life with something different: consistency. With weekly visits, steady encouragement, uplifting words, and positive reading materials, the Rabbi became a reliable, compassionate presence for both mother and son—showing her that support can be real, ongoing, and personal.

Meir grew up in a deeply religious environment, but since his teens, he had drifted far from the Yiddishkeit he once knew—spending the past four decades on a very different path.

When he ended up incarcerated a few years ago due to mental health challenges, that’s when our journey together began. Week by week, we studied, we talked, and we slowly reconnected to that eternal spark within him—the spark of his Neshama.

Now that Meir is finally out, he’s sharing—in his own words—what it meant to have someone who believed in him and helped him begin to believe in himself.
