Pain: Why We Keep It and Why We Need to Let It Go

Pain is a funny thing. We don’t want it. We don’t want to face it. But then in interactions with our Savior, we often struggle to let Him have it.

Picture Jesus standing in front of the crippled man at the pool of Bethesda, asking him if he wanted to be healed. I know what I would have said to Jesus if I was there with the disciples: “Of course he wants to be healed! What a ridiculous question!”

But Jesus understood something profoundly complex about the human soul, something we often overlook: people like to keep their pain.

So Jesus asked a question that the crippled man didn’t even know he needed to be asked,
"Do you want to be healed?”

Of course, Jesus knew the answer. The question was meant to reveal something about the man to the man himself. The question was simple but loaded: “Do you really want to be healed? Are you ready to give up the life you’ve known for so long and step into uncharted territory? Will you trust me?”

MEET OUR TEAM!
Anchor & Key Chairman of the Board

After receiving his undergraduate degree in Economics and Math from Duke and his MBA from Harvard, Bill spent 27 years in the banking and investment business. But his real passion is discipling and empowering Christian leaders and organizations to become all that God has created them to be. He has been applying his corporate and financial skills and experience to the faith-based world to catalyze real change for the Kingdom of God that is lasting and skillful, as well as strategic. For the past 12 years, Bill has served as Chairman of the Board of T-Net International, a Christian organization that equips pastors throughout the world to transform their churches into multiplying, disciple-making churches. T-Net has grown significantly over this time period and now has over 12,000 students in training in over 40 countries! He has also served on the Elder Board of his local church and the board of Converge Northeast. He LOVES New England and was a resident for over 35 years.

Bill met Jimmy and Renee in 2016 and their relationship was built around prayer, worship, and a shared desire to impact the body of Christ in New England. Bill has been the "gospel patron" for the work and anointing that led to Anchor & Key ministries in 2017 and our ministry was birthed in his home in Avon. After years of support and being more like family than a friend, he now serves as the chairman of our Board of Directors. Bill, a widower, currently resides in Bozeman, Montana with his adult son, Andrew.
