Getting organized and moving ahead takes so much energy, and the reality is that unforeseen events will always come up. There's always an excuse to avoid the dentist, or why you were late, or can't work out. And those things don't need to be moralized. Life happens.
Today, some friendly Jehovah's Witnesses knocked on my door. They asked me if the bible (assuming they meant the Judeo-Christian Bible 😂) had any relevance in today's society. I told them about the First Atheist of Austin, and how I'm tryin to build it. And I answered truthfully, as a historical and ancient anthology of philosophy and art and narrative, it was well worth understanding. But that many in the church had used and continue to use it in damaging ways. I said that modern christians tend to moralize issues that don't need to be moralized, like addiction, laziness, and sexuality. Until the church can look in the mirror and be self aware, it doesn't need to be in anyone's life more than the historical relic it is.
I'm not sure they heard me; one woman was slightly older than me, and they other was in her senior years, and the sunk cost fallacy does a number on people's sense of spirituality. I only hope that they can continue to grow and learn and let go. It's the hope I have for all of us.
