Blog #1: Gayle and I went to Mexico in the winter of 1990, one year after she had had a shunt in her head break down and she was in the hospital in Houston, Texas for a month, 3 weeks in intensive care and one week in a regular room. About a week after she got out of the hospital, we flew home to Homer, Alaska...this was in 1989.
Our Abba has a purpose for our lives...I cannot remember all of the details, but Gayle and I had an intercessory prayer group in our home for about a year and a half...we met on Fridays...and we prayed for everything. One night, I was praying and our Abba gave me a heart for the nations...
In 1990, Gayle and I went to Mexico to be on an eye glass clinic in the state of Hildago with Gospel Outreach. We went to places way off the road and it seemed like we climbed a mountain...at some point, they sent burros down and Gayle and the Doctor got to ride the rest of the way, while the rest of us suffered as we finished that race. We were later told that we were the first of the white people that had visited that village.
We had different assignments. Because Gayle is such an outgoing and friendly person, it was her job to greet the people and develop trust and friendship with each of them. My job was at the end...after the eye glasses were given...laying hands and praying for the people.
After praying for so many people, something happened in my own life...in my heart...
About 6 months later, I was doing electrical work in a church...in the attic and our Abba dropped me to my knees with a burden to go back...
I want to share 2 things here: #1 If you have a burden, as strong as I did, then you will want to research the area where you have the burden...find out as much as you can about the people, the culture, how satan manipulates the area and some of what really goes on there. You do not want to be blindsided (as I was) when you get where you are going...
#2 Write the Vision...make it plain...make it easy to read. We were encouraged to do that on our way from Alaska to Mexico by a woman in Ventura, California...and so, when the enemy stormed against us, our knees buckled and we ran away...well, not exactly like this, but I fell and my wife was discouraged because we were living in an area where what we were doing was illegal...
We were sent out of our church in Homer, Alaska, as missionaries to go to Mexico in December of 1991...we finally got to our apartment in Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico on Groundhogs' day, 1992. We stayed in Mexico, the better part of two years, until we left...in October 1993, and made our way to Atlanta, Georgia, to Atlanta Christian Center.
