Beautiful imagery for a heart warming loving relationship with our Shepherd.

“We are His people and the sheep of the pasture” closer and closer does HE Draw us, away from the crowded daily grind of “busy ness” into The Father’s Business,
Living by loving and caring and nurturing.

A beautiful thing when we can see ourselves in that picture with Him.

Our King delights to dwell among His lilies.

Song of Songs gives us this beautiful picture:

“I know my lover is mine and I have everything in you,
for we delight ourselves in each other.”
—Song of Songs 2:16 TPT

The Hebrew describes the beloved as the one who “grazes” or “shepherds among the lilies.” The word is rāʿâ—the same Hebrew root found in Psalm 23:1:

“The Lord is my Shepherd.”

It means to shepherd, tend, feed, and care for a flock. It can even carry the extended idea of keeping company with another as a friend.

What a tender picture.

Our Shepherd does not care for us from a distance. He comes near. He walks among His lilies. He tends them, nourishes them, watches over them, and remains close to them.

And who are His lilies?

Earlier in the Song, the bride is pictured as “a lily among thorns.”

Devotionally, we can see ourselves in this beautiful imagery. We are the flowers of His garden, cherished by the One who has made us His own.

Jesus is not reluctant to be near you.
He shepherds you because He loves you.
He tends the garden of your heart.
He nourishes what He has planted within you.
He enjoys your fellowship.
He calls you His own.

“My beloved is mine, and I am his;
he grazes among the lilies.”

You are not merely a servant in His field.
You are a beloved lily in His garden.
And your Shepherd loves to be near you.
