Make plans to join us at Solid Rock Baptist Church for our annual Thanksgiving day service on November 27th at 9am . It all began…
🦃On Thanksgiving day in 1967, a young assistant pastor was studying in his office, having removed himself from a busy kitchen at home, but anticipating the dinner he would enjoy later that day with his family. A knock came at the church door. “How unusual,” thought the pastor. He rose to answer the knock and was greeted by a young man looking for a place to pray.
•Having recently immigrated from Russia, this Christian had anticipated celebrating his first Thanksgiving in the United States gathered with fellow believers to give thanks and worship God. He had knocked on many church doors in several towns that Thanksgiving morning in search of a place to give thanks in prayer only to be met by closed, empty church houses. He had envisioned churches open and full in a land that was free, full of the brave and blessed by God and yet … they weren’t. The young pastor welcomed him into the church to pray.
•Three years later, Pastor James Bachman, having become a senior pastor, instated their first Thanksgiving Day service - a time to worship, pray and give thanks with the body of Christ to the One who is the Giver, Creator, and Saviour for whosoever will.
•For seven years our family was a part of the ministry of Roanoke Baptist Church and for those years we enjoyed our first experience with a Thanksgiving day service. Eight years ago, our family planted the Solid Rock Baptist Church with the hope that we would continue the tradition. Since purchasing our building in the fall of 2020, we’ve held our annual Thanksgiving day service inviting our church and the community to join us in a time to worship, pray and give thanks to One who gave all and continues to give all. As a church we strive to be a light on a hill in our community. Let’s not forget that the body of Christ as a whole, across our nation, can keep His light shining brightly.
