The Sanctuary of Monroe

This weekend we participated in Monroe’s Love Your City event. As we do whenever we go into the community, we pray before and have a goal of being a light and God’s hands and feet when needed. We look forward to and expect to have God moments every time we leave the house. This outing had that moment when we stopped to check out some people having a Bible study at Nerd Street. We got to meet the owner John and share with him what we do as pastors of a network of house churches. He welcomed us to use his business as a place to meet and do Bible studies, as well as shared his family’s recent journey in looking for a church. Being the church and fulfilling the great commission means we go to the community.

If we want Biblical results which include adding to the church daily, and seeing signs and wonders greater than what Jesus did, we have to return to the Biblical model of fulfilling the great commission.

The original church model included those filled with the Holy Spirit being the minsters of the gospel. The elders or leadership primary role was to shepherd, pastor, equip the minsters (the saints) to go forth and make more disciples, while supporting the ministers in their own growth and development. There was and is no place in the living church of God for CEO leaders, bystanders or observers.

Jesus was a great example of the power and necessity for relational discipleship. It remains the same today that people are more open to hearing about what God has for them, when they've had time to develop a personal relationship with you as an individual. Seeing what God has done in the life of a friend, neighbor or co-worker is a powerful testimony.

"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father." We will keep striving to follow the Biblical example of church in the New Testament until we become what God said we'd be as believers. We will become the Christians we were created to be; seeing blind eyes open, the lame walking and the dead being brought back to life.
