American Anglican Council

American Anglican Council For 26 years The American Anglican Council has promoted and defended Biblical Anglicanism in North America and world-wide.

Our mission is to build up and defend Great Commission Anglicanism through developing faithful leaders, equipping local congregations, and always reforming the Church by providing prayer, networking, education, and resources. The Anglican Communion is among the world’s largest Christian denominations with over 55 million active participants and over the past two decades experienced intense divisio

n and an onslaught of confusion and false teaching. In North America, many Anglican churches are in need of revitalization. While some parishes are thriving, others are losing members. We want to come alongside churches and leaders to help them on their journey to being biblically-faithful, thriving, and healthy. To meet these challenges the American Anglican Council focuses its efforts on bringing clarity out of confusion by:

Developing Faithful Leaders
Equipping Local Congregations
Reforming the Church

We do this through our Daniel Leadership Institute, with its academies meant to grow, support, and strengthen courageous, biblically-faithful and resilient leaders in the Anglican way. We equip churches through Anglican Revitalization Ministries. This ministry is composed of Revive, our church revitalization workshop; Renew, our Holy Spirit renewal conference; and Reframe, our church and leadership consulting initiative. Finally, we engage in always reforming the Church both domestically, through the Anglican Legal Society, and internationally, through the Bishops Leadership Summit. Both ministries, in their own areas, stress the importance of good and godly governance at every level of the Church. To find out more visit www.americananglican.org.

In the weeks following the G26 gathering in Abuja, questions emerged across the Anglican world about what, exactly, was established and how leadership within this new structure is meant to function. Much of the concern centered on the Global Anglican Council and the role it will play in relation to the wider Global Anglican Communion. After an exclusive conversation with the Rt. Rev. Paul Donison, General Secretary of the Global Anglican Communion, it is clear that the developments in Abuja are best understood as an effort to bring clarity and consistency to leadership within a Communion already defined by shared theological commitments.

At the heart of this clarification is a distinction that is essential to understanding the Council itself....

The reordering of the Global Anglican Communion is a process, and in Abuja at the G26 gathering we saw meaningful steps taken in the right direction. Leaders have built the kind of global, biblically faithful Anglican fellowship that many of us have prayed and worked toward for decades. There may still be improvements to make, but what has begun is something worth celebrating.

For that, we give thanks to the Lord....

When the Martyrs’ Day Statement was issued on October 16 of last year, my immediate reaction was that it reminded me of the United States’ Declaration of Independence. When the Declaration of Independence was issued on July 4, 1776, it did not come out of nowhere. It followed years of attempts b...

The communiqué issued at the conclusion of the G26 gathering, called the Abuja Affirmation, marks a significant moment in the life of the GAFCON movement and in the ongoing conversation about the future of the Anglican Communion. Bishops and Anglican leaders from across the global church gathered in Nigeria not simply for fellowship, but to reflect on the implications of the October 2025 Martyrs’ Day Statement and to continue discerning how faithful Anglicans might walk together in a time of deep ecclesial division.

Questions surrounding the change in language from primus inter pares (“first among equals”) to “Chair of the Council” during the recent GAFCON Council gathering prompted further clarification from leaders during the afternoon sessions in Abuja. Earlier in the day, the public announcement regarding the formation of the new Global Anglican Council referred to the elected leader as Chair of the Council, rather than using the term primus inter pares that had appeared in earlier discussions and press conferences leading up to the meeting. The shift generated curiosity among some observers, particularly within English church media, who wondered whether the change reflected internal disagreements or outside pressures.

Later in the afternoon, the Rt. Rev. Paul Donison addressed the AAC’s question about this directly, offering historical and ecclesiological reasons for the decision...

Together, the announcement of these revised structures and the teaching sessions throughout the day pointed toward a growing resolve among GAFCON leaders to move beyond reaction and toward the faithful building of structures that will strengthen orthodox Anglican fellowship. The Council’s discussions increasingly focused not only on defending the faith but also on providing durable frameworks for cooperation, accountability, and shared mission among provinces that remain committed to biblical teaching...

At the GAFCON Council meeting in Abuja, leaders announced the formation of the Global Anglican Council and the election of Laurent Mbanda as Chairman. The new council expands leadership beyond primates to include bishops, clergy, and lay representatives from across the global church.

Supporters say the move reflects a growing effort to strengthen Anglican fellowship around the authority of Scripture and the historic faith of the Church.

The recent BBC News report on what's going on at Gafcon G26 in Abuja, Nigeria, hosted by the Church of Nigeria - Anglican Communion is pretty ridiculous in its sourcing and its conclusions about the state of the Anglican Communion.

One would expect a reporter stationed in Lagos to be aware of the Church of Nigeria, the largest province in the Anglican Communion and one of the primary hosts of this gathering. To describe the movement represented here as merely a “grouping” suggests either unfamiliarity with the global Anglican landscape or a willingness to frame the story in a way that minimizes its significance.

This article is based on a BBC article, written on Gafcon’s G26 Council, which can be found here: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgrz1rx0ejzo “Clergy from a conservative grouping of the Anglican Church.” That is how the BBC chose to describe those gathered this week for the GAFCON Council i...

Today the Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) announced revisions to proposals that are seeking to reshape the Anglican Communion on the same week that Gafcon G26 is proposing a biblical (not just structural) way forward. This was no accident on the ACC's part. It's trying to undermine Gafcon's attempt to re-order the Communion around the Word of God.

This attempt causes us to ask some questions: If the Communion’s institutions are now proposing a form of democratization that gives greater authority to Global South leaders and provinces, how will GAFCON respond? Will such reforms be seen as a meaningful step toward addressing long-standing concerns, or as another attempt to preserve existing structures while diffusing pressure from the Global South? Will the GAFCON council directly address the Nairobi–Cairo proposals at G26 in a decisive way?

It's our hope that some of these questions will be answered in the structural reforms laid out here this week, based on theological conviction and the Word of God.

As bishops and church leaders gather in Abuja, Nigeria for the 2026 GAFCON Council, another conversation about the future of the Anglican Communion is unfolding at the same time. The Anglican Consultative Council (ACC) recently announced that it will consider revised versions of the Nairobi–Cairo ...
