Matt. 5:3 Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens

Matt. 5:8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

Being poor in spirit means not only being humble. It also means that our spirit is empty and clean to receive Christ. We need to be hungry for God and seeking God in our spirit. We should not be content with whatever we know. We should empty out whatever we know and experienced spiritually. Our past spiritual experience cannot justify our present faith. We need to keep renewing our Christian faith by gaining new experience day by day. Our daily experience in our spirit should be afresh. For this we need to have an empty and seeking spirit.

Being pure in heart means, our purpose is single and Christ is our only goal. We should not have our heart filled with so many other things that can hinder our growth. In our daily life, we get occupied in dealing with so many other things that can frustrate us. We need to empty our spirit and take more of Christ into us. We receive Christ in our spirit and growth occurs in our heart. We need to keep our heart clean without any mixture, so that Christ can grow in us without any frustrations.

2Cor 4:4 In whom the god of this age has blinded the thoughts of the unbelievers that the illumination of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, might not shine on them

The god of this age - Satan, the Devil, God's adversary, enemy. Satan is the ruler of this world who is pulling everyone by blinding their thoughts using the worldly attractions & amusements.

Unbelievers- Those who do not believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Illumination of the gospel - Gospel has a light. Unbelievers are veiled by their thoughts which are injected by Satan. They are missing that shining of the Gospel because their hearts are turned away to many other things of the world.

Even Atheists worship Satan without knowing that they are worshipping the things of the world whose chief is Satan

In Matthew 9:20-22 we see a woman who was suffering from hemorrhage for 12 years want to touch the edge of the garment of Jesus so that she can be healed. She had such a great faith. She was saying to herself, if she can just touch His garment, she will be healed. Similar incident happened in Matthew 14:34-36, when many who were ill were brought to Him to touch the edge of His garment.

Touching His garment was like touching His humanity. As a human, Jesus was pure, sinless, holy, righteous, loving and kind. His human virtues had the healing power that could heal anyone who touched Him. Jesus has that kind of healing touch. We can be healed by His gentle touch. All that we need to do is just come to Him, seek His presence. We can touch Him in our spirit, through prayer and in His word.

We need to have such a great faith in Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world. As believers, everyday we study the Bible, pray to Him and attend Church meetings but doing all these things in faith can make a lot of difference. Without genuine faith, our Christian life can be just religious and ritualistic. Jesus reminded His disciples for their lack of faith in Matthew 8:23-26 when He was in the boat with His disciples and there was a sea storm. His disciples shouted in fear that they were perishing due to the storm but they did not have the faith even though Jesus was with them.

In Matthew 8:5-10 we see a centurion who asked Jesus to heal his paralyzed servant. Jesus was ready to go to his house to heal his servant but this man said he is not worthy for Jesus to enter his house but if Jesus speaks a word, his servant will be healed. Jesus marveled at such a great faith of this centurion.

We receive Jesus in faith. He imparts faith into us through His word and through His life. In order for our faith to be genuine and strong, we need to trust Jesus in every small thing and in every kind of situation. In the 4 Gospels, Jesus healed many sick ones and performed many miracles. We see some of them who were healed had tremendous faith in Him, without knowing much about Him. Like the lady in Matt 9:20-22 and the Centurion in 8:5-10.

In Matthew 7:21, Lord Jesus referred to His believers. It was not for unbelievers but for the believers. Kingdom of heavens referred here is the future Kingdom that will be manifested in the millennium. According to Jesus, only those who do according to God's will can enter into His future Kingdom that will be manifested when He returns.

In John 3:3 when Jesus spoke to Nicodemus, He said 'Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless one is born anew, he cannot see the kingdom of God'. This is God's kingdom in which we the believers live today. In order to be part of God's kingdom today, we just need to be saved by accepting Jesus as the Son of God. But this is not the same as the kingdom mentioned in Matthew 7:21.

The difference with these 2 versions of God's Kingdom is that the one that is to come in the future requires a higher price to be paid. We need to do the will of the father which also requires being connected with the Lord and abiding in Him all days of our life. Doing the will of the father requires every being under God's ruling day by day by denying our flesh. Christ set us the pattern by obeying the father's will all the time while He was on the earth and being one with the father. This is the same we need to do today. Just saving by accepting Jesus Christ will not be sufficient to be raptured by Christ and be part of His bride.

Being saved through faith and baptism is just an entrance to God's kingdom but that is not good enough to enter into the kingdom of heavens that is in store for the overcoming believers who have paid a price by doing Father's will. It depends on our day to day living after we are saved by His mercy. More than knowing the Bible, attending Church meetings and being involved with serving the Lord, we need to be willing to do the will of the Father.

Paul was imprisoned in a foreign country when he wrote to the Philippians. In such a situation Paul should be worried about himself and his condition. He had all the reasons to be occupied with his own situation. Instead, Paul was rejoicing in the Lord. How could he rejoice in such a situation?

If any of us are in such a situation we would be worried more about ourselves. We would be complaining to God instead of rejoicing. But Paul was focused on enjoying and experiencing Christ during this time. He looked away unto Jesus, away from his situation. He took the opportunity to magnify Christ in his experience in such a hostile situation.

Whether our situation is good or bad, we need to learn to enjoy Christ. We need to rejoice in Christ in the midst of our suffering so that Christ can be magnified. Every situation is an opportunity to experience Christ for our transformation and glorifying Christ.

Spirit vs spirit

John 4:24 says God is a Spirit and those who worship Him should worship in spirit and in truth. In this verses there are 2 kinds of spirit. 'S'pirit refers to God's spirit whereas 's'pirit refers to our human spirit.

Human spirit is the primary organ to contact God and it is hidden deep inside our soul. Since God Himself is a Spirit, we can receive Him in our spirit only. We cannot use our mind or heart to contact God. Mind uses logic and is analytical, our heart is emotional. Spirit is pure and that is why it is used to contact God. When we pray we need to pray in our spirit, but not use our mind or our heart to express our needs to God.

Romans 8:16 - The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God.

When we receive Christ who came as the life giving Spirit into us, He enters our spirit. His Spirit and our spirits are mingled together. Due to this mingling, we don't have to be worried about what to do, how to live and what is good or bad for us, Jesus Christ will lead us in every step of our life. Because He lives right in our spirit, He is not too far away in the heavens. Through this mingling of the 2 spirits together we have the assurance that we are Children of God. And this happens right in our spirit.

Praise the Lord we can enjoy Him in our spirit.

GOD's MOVE WITH MAN IN THE OLD AND NEW TESTAMENT TIME

Sometimes it can take so long to share something, still there cannot be an excuse. We need to share our enjoyment of God and spread the word of God daily.

If we ask anyone about the differences between Old Testament and New Testament there are plenty that we can speak about.
We can say that OT had only Jehovah but in NT we have Jesus Christ. During OT, there were Kings, Rulers, Pharisees and Priests but in NT we have Pastors and Elders. During OT there were Jewish temple or synagogue and there was no Church as such. Also OT was more about Moses Laws (10 commandments) but NT is about believing in Jesus, the Messiah. While OT is about God's laws, NT is about faith in God through Jesus Christ.

But there is something more important than all these obvious differences. During OT, God was outward experience for the people. Their belief was that if they do good, God will bless them and if they do bad God will punish them. This kind of belief regulated their behavior and conduct. Still God was outside of them in their belief, in the 10 commandments that they tried to follow. God was more objective. For ex: Job in OT did not know what God was trying to do with him when he lost all his possessions and his relatives. Because Job did not experience God inwardly. He only believed in God and was being righteous in his living (in the ways of Men). He did not experience God till he was stripped of everything he had. Finally in Job 42:1-6 he acknowledged what God was doing in him. He was able to see God in his own life only towards the end of all his sufferings. It is not God who made Job to lose everything, it was Satan God's enemy who challenged God regarding Job and took away everything he had. God allowed that to happen to let Job experience God in a more subjective way.

In the New Testament age, something changed drastically, that is Jesus Himself came to the earth as a Man. He was both God and Man. So He was the first God Man. As a Man when He was on the earth, He had God inside of Him. God lived inside Him. So Jesus could live the way God wants Him to live and do what God wanted Him to do. He lived by the life of God that was inside of Him. He was also constantly communicating to God.

Today for the New Testament believers who believe in Jesus Christ and receive Him, we will have the same experience. We have God inside of us because when we receive Christ, He is the life giving Spirit in us. We can live by the life of God inside of us. It is possible that we may ignore or neglect the God who is inside us and keep living the way we like. But it is also possible for us to live as God likes us to live and a per God's plan and will. Christ who lives inside of us as a Spirit can regulate our life.

So this is a major difference. Having God inside of us is something much greater than having God outside of us. This can impact our life in a great way compared to people of Old Testament. People in the Old testament like Moses, Job, David suffered and so are we today as Christian believers we suffer as well. But the fundamental difference is though we are suffering outwardly, we are being renewed inwardly day by day. This is illustrated in 2 Cor 4:16. That was not the case with people during OT time. They suffered outwardly and there was nothing being renewed inside of them. Because they did not have the life giving Spirit in them. They could only trust in God and live based on how much revelation they received from God. Their knowledge of God and their revelation was very limited. Today for us that is not the case. We have complete revelation through Jesus Christ and God's word in the Bible. Once we receive Christ, we will have much more experiences in our life where we experience God. So our experience of God is subjective.

Psalm 73 - Righteous ones suffer, Wicked ones prosper

Writer of this Psalm, Asaph was really perplexed when he considered the situation of the wicked who prospered but the righteous suffered. He could not understand why some people prosper materially but some do not. He says:

3 For I was envious of the arrogant
As I saw the prosperity of the wicked.
4 For there are no pains in their death,
And their body is fat.
5 They are not in trouble as other men,
Nor are they plagued like mankind.

He was pondering about this till he contacted God and he got the answer. Here is what he says then:

16 When I pondered to understand this,
It was troublesome in my sight
17 Until I came into the sanctuary of God;
Then I perceived their end.
18 Surely You set them in slippery places;
You cast them down to destruction.
19 How they are destroyed in a moment!
They are utterly swept away by sudden terrors!

When he came to God, he received a revelation why God is not allowing him to prosper materially. He realized that God was working to deprive him of all material things so that he might enjoy God in such an absolute way. This is the revelation. Why do the wicked prosper and their riches continually increase? It is because God has given them up; He simply lets them go on their own way. They have nothing whatever to do with the enjoyment of God. But God’s intention with the seeking saints is to remove all material blessings and all physical enjoyments in order that they may find everything in God. Nothing in heaven or on earth can be their enjoyment but God Himself.

Once he received the revelation, he was full of praises for God in these verses:

25 Whom have I in heaven but You?
And besides You, I desire nothing on earth.
26 My flesh and my heart may fail,
But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
27 For, behold, those who are far from You will perish;
You have [ab]destroyed all those who [ac]are unfaithful to You.
28 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good;
I have made the Lord [ad]God my refuge,
That I may tell of all Your works.

He learned why God would not allow the seeking saints to prosper as the worldlings do. God intends that nothing should distract us from the absolute enjoyment of Himself. Eventually, it is not a matter of merely keeping the law, but of seeking God absolutely. It is not a matter of doing good or evil, right or wrong—if you are concerned about that, you are still occupied with the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. It is a matter of seeking God, obtaining God, possessing God. It is a matter of experiencing God to the extent that you also can say, “Whom do I have in heaven but You? / And besides You there is nothing I desire on earth.”

THE WORLD SITUATION IS AN INDICATOR OF GOD'S MOVE ON EARTH

It has been 5 months since we are in the Pandemic crisis and we are doing everything possible to remain safe. We are also witnessing many sufferings due to the Coronavirus. When we think it is slowing down, we see a sudden increase in the number of cases and deaths. Places that were considered safe and had reasonably fewer Covid cases are showing increase in number exponentially. Right now there is no place that is safe on earth. And we do not have a miracle drug that can kill this virus and a vaccine is still far-fetched.

During this crisis, only source of trust is God of peace and comfort. We know our Lord Jesus Christ has overcome every negative aspect through His crucifixion, death, and resurrection. He has already fought the fight, paid the price, and won the victory. Then why He is allowing this kind of health crisis which impacts even His believers? This is the question for many in today’s situation. How do we get the answer from Him on this? The only source is the Bible, the word of God which has the ultimate revelation from eternity past to eternity future.

Book of Daniel in the Bible and Book of Revelation can reveal everything that is happening today and whatever that happens in future. In Daniel Chapter 2, King Nebuchadnezzar had a dream of a great human image with its head made of Gold, breast and arms made of Silver, Abdomen and Thighs made of bronze, Legs and feet made of Iron. This dream was interpreted by Daniel (Dan 2:31-45) to the King. These different parts of the image signified 4 different human Empires on the earth with their governments. The 4th Empire was Roman Empire under which Christ was crucified. Finally these human governments would be destroyed by the Stone cut out as per the prophesy in Daniel 2:34-35. That Stone is none other than Christ who will crush the human government when He returns to the earth the second time. I am not getting much into the details of the Prophesy from Daniel 2. It would be good for those who are seeking answers for present situation to study the scripture from Daniel 2 thoroughly and interpret them using other Biblical resources available. But we see today that the human governments on the earth are much like the ones mentioned in the Bible.

Relating the world situation today and the prophesy in Daniel 2, we will have such human governments throughout the ages till Christ return. Hence our trust should not be in any human government but should be only in the Lord. We should turn to the Lord with genuine faith so that He can not only protect us during this situation but also reveal His plans to us. We need to pray in spirit continuously for God’s will to be made known to us. We need to persevere in prayer so that God can accomplish His desire during this situation. He is using the current situation to accomplish His purpose on the earth. Outward situation may be chaos, crisis, death, sufferings, etc. But behind the scenes God’s government is functioning. God is still administrating the earth from the throne in a sovereign way. He will judge what He has to judge as the righteous judge, He will cleanse what He intends to cleanse, and He will gain people who He needs for His kingdom.

Another prophesy related to the world situation is in Revelation 6:1-8 with John's vision of the seven seals. The first four seals tell us much about what is going on in the world. The first seal (Rev 6:1-2) that consists of a white horse and its rider signifies the spreading of the gospel in today's age of grace. The second seal (Rev 6:3-4) that consists of a red horse and its rider signifies spreading of war, shedding of blood. The third seal (Rev 6:5-6) that consists of black horse and its rider, signifies spreading famine. The fourth seal (Rev 6:7-8) that consists of a pale horse and its rider, signifies spreading death. The revelation we see here is that the running of four-horse race that began from Christ's ascension will continue through the end of this age till Christ returns. After Christ ascension, Gospel has been spreading for 20 centuries, along with gospel War, Famine and Death also has been spreading in human race. War causes famine, and famine results in death. All these will continue until the end of the age.

As faithful ones we need to remain with the first white horse to preach the Gospel. Everything else that is happening (War, Famine and Death) in the world are for spreading of the Gospel. All the events are sovereignly arranged so that the Lord Jesus name will be made known all over the earth. As believers we need to preach the Gospel of peace, a Gospel in which the victory was accomplished in a peaceful way through crucifixion, death, resurrection, and ascension.

Jesus Christ is the perfect God Man on the earth who was sinless and holy, yet died as a Man to pay the penalty for sins of mankind and redeem us from the curse of the law. We were cursed because of Adamic nature in us and we deserved death. But Jesus rescued us with His timely death and resurrection. Now we are resurrected in Him with His new life, we can be identified with Him and one with Him. We share the same life and nature as the Triune God but we are not in the Godhead. We are being transformed into His image so that we will be prepared as His bride before His return. Jesus Christ is building up His Body on the earth with His members of the Body so that He can reign with His kingdom on earth and we can reign with Him. We are His kings and priests, we are not mere followers. What a privilege to be identified with the Triune God, to be His special treasure. Today He is seeking overcomers who can be His dispensational instruments to turn the age and prepare for His return as His bride, which is the Church.

Our Choice vs God's Choice

We often come into this situation of making our own choice or accepting God's choice or allow God to make His choice for us. When we make our Choice and if it is not God's will, we will have some consequences which we do not know till we really face those consequences. Sometimes even when we face certain consequences we may not know the reason behind it. But it could be just a result of our own choice. Instead if we accept God's choice, we will enjoy His blessings and be joyful in any situation.

Let us consider an example in the Bible from the book of Numbers chapter 32. This chapter is about the tribes of Reuben, Gad and half tribe of Manesseh asking Moses to grant them the land that is on the east of Jordan so that they dont have to cross of Jordan river and reach the promised land of Canaan.

God had already planned the land of Canaan for Israel as their inheritance and He wanted everyone to come to enjoy this good land. He also prearranged how to distribute the land to everyone. But Reuben and Gad came up with a different plan, they had their own choice of land rather than simply receiving God’s allotment. They thought that the land they chose would be good for their cattle and livestock.

Reuben and Gad could reach their land without crossing Jordan. But to reach the good land, they had to cross the Jordan. In our daily experience we need to cross Jordan by passing through the death of Christ. Otherwise we cannot enter into the realm of His resurrection and ascension. Only when we deny our self and bury the soulish desires, we are in a position to enjoy God's choice which is enjoying Christ as our good land. These tribes forgot about their brothers; they thought only about what was good for their livestock and cattle. They cared too much for their own enjoyment and did not care for God’s will, plan, goal, kingdom or testimony. They reached their goal but did not reach God’s goal which was on the west side of the river.

What was the result of these two tribes? They were soon invaded by Assyrians. They were the first ones taken captive. This shows that if we exercise our choice, we could be easily attacked by the enemy. They were right next to the good land, but they were still not part of the good land. They missed God’s goal. In our journey with Christ, we can attain our spiritual goal but not the glorious Goal which is receiving the rich inheritance of Christ. We can stop half-way and be settled for less, the second best but not the ‘Best’ according to God. Instead if we’re willing to pay the price today to go forward all the way to God’s glorious goal, we will have an extremely rich and special enjoyment in the future.

Abiding in Christ is the secret of experiencing Christ. What is abiding in Christ. In John 15:4, Jesus said 'Abide in me and I in you'. To abide in Christ is not only to remain in Him but also to dwell in Him taking Him as our everything. To dwell in God is to have our living in God. We need to dwell in God every minute, because outside of Him there are sins and afflictions.
When we dwell in a house, we can have full experience of the house. If I live in a house like a guest, coming home only during night and being out for the rest of the day, i may not have full experience of my house. It is similar with our Lord. Among the 24 hours in a day how long we spend with the lord. I cant spend more than 30 mins to 1 hour. Remaining time am I abiding in the lord? May be not. As we live in the world, we need to participate in the world for our day to day needs. That gives us exposure to the world, where there are sins and afflictions. We are trained on things outside of Him. This makes us to lose our fellowship with the Lord or turn off our spirit and connection with the Lord. In order to abide in the lord, we need to lock ourselves to outside world so that it doesn't hinder our fellowship with the Lord. This is possible by praying unceasingly and give thanks in everything
