POWER OF COMMUNION
“The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?” — 1 Corinthians 10:16 (KJV)
Communion is one of the most profound ordinances given to the Church by the Lord Jesus Christ. Partaking of the bread and cup is not merely a religious ritual or symbolic tradition. It is a sacred act of FAITH that connects us as believers to the finished work of CHRIST. Through communion, we proclaim the sacrifice of Jesus and reaffirm our participation in the covenant established through His body and blood.
The bread represents the body of Christ that was broken for us. Through His suffering and sacrifice, Jesus bore the penalty of our sin and opened the way for our redemption, healing, and restoration. When we partake of the bread in FAITH, we remember that CHRIST’s body was given so that we might experience wholeness in every area of life.
The cup represents the blood of Christ, which established the new covenant between God and His people. The shedding of Jesus’ blood secured the forgiveness of our sins and reconciled us to God. The blood of Christ also speaks of our cleansing, protection, and victory over the power of sin and death. When we drink from the cup, we declare our place in this covenant and our trust in the redeeming power of Christ’s sacrifice.
And I must add this: the power of communion does not lie in the physical elements themselves, but in the FAITH with which we approach it. When we partake with reverence and FAITH, the act becomes our moment of spiritual renewal. It reminds our hearts of the victory of the cross and strengthens our confidence in God’s promises.
Beloved, communion also brings us into deeper fellowship with Christ. In fact, the word “communion” itself speaks of participation and sharing. Through this sacred act, we are reminded that we are united with Christ and with one another as members of His body. Starting this week, I urge you to approach communion with gratitude and FAITH. Remember the sacrifice of Christ and the covenant that has been established through His body and blood.
Say This Prayer
Lord Jesus, I thank You for Your sacrifice and for the covenant established through Your body and blood. As I partake of communion, I pray that You help me to remember the fullness of what You have accomplished for me. Let the power of the cross continue to transform my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
