When contractors tell you their supply prices are increasing at alarming rates, THEY’RE NOT LYING! It’s not just wood, or food, or the things consumers notice on a daily basis. Heidelberg Materials, who recently bought the Toccoa Quarry had a 8% revenue decline due to concrete sales in their European market so they have increased US prices by 8% (you read that right) as of July 1. Another local Georgia quarry has instituted a $2-$4 per ton increase as of July 1. A South Carolina Quarry, who has historically had reasonable prices worth wasting $5/gal diesel fuel costs to drive to, is starting “In County” and “Out of County” pricing as of August 1. Business outside of the county where the quarry is located will receive approximately a $4-$5/ton increase in pricing. That’s about $75-$100 a load of additional cost. The cost of tires, maintenance, fuel, etc. isn’t holding steady either.
