On this day in 1989, Ann McCaskill led the Missions Coordinating Council to host a Missions Fair. The carnival featured midway booths in Fellowship hall where people could learn about six specific areas of mission work: Australia, West Germany, New York City, Vancouver, Winnipeg and Juarez. Families were challenged to learn about the world and see how they could be involved in these works.

Vera Huff, a long time member of First Baptist, passed away on this day in 1989. She left her entire estate, valued at over $1,000,000 at the time, to First Baptist. Her house became our second missionary residence, and Pat King, head of the Missionary Residence Committee, headed up the renovation of the house. Her estate also funded repairs in what we now know as the Vera Huff building, which was also recently renovated again.

The legacy of Vera Huff, a faithful member of our church, lives on today.
