Carolina Outreach Providing counseling, mediation, & assistance to mission congregations of the churches of Christ wit

Our mission is to provide small, mission congregations of the churches of Christ within the Carolinas, including the local minister and his family, with counseling, mediation services, and assistance, by providing essential logistical support. This work is overseen by the elders of the North Charleston church of Christ, North Charleston, SC, and is assisted by interested churches and individuals.

Due to an apparent misunderstanding about the nature of our page and/or mistaking us with a secular organization sharing the name "Carolina Outreach," we need to post a clarification.

Though not a church, we are a church-related mission work dealing with the encouragement and mental-health needs (via counseling) of small, struggling congregations of the churches of Christ in North and South Carolina.

As of the moment, circumstances have concentrated our attention to western North Carolina as we are focusing on a small church in the mountains of North Carolina.

As a result of the nature of our work, we've not generated content as we should and have likely unintentionally allowed this misconception to persist. If that is the case, we apologize.

In the interim, continue praying for the growth and strengthening of these struggling churches of Christ in the Carolinas.

North Carolina has gotten most of the attention from the media concerning to effects of Hurricane Florence. However, South Carolina has been impacted too. Horry County, home to Conway and Myrtle Beach, currently faces the shut down of all roads into the county, save U.S. 50, which may be cut off also, by the rising waters of the Waccamaw River. Elsewhere in the state, SC Highway 145 nearly cost a trucker his life when a swollen creek from Florence-related floodwaters washed the road away from beneath him. (Link in comments.)

As S.C. National Guard crews build a sandbag barrier to protect U.S. 501 in Conway from the rising Waccamaw River, projections show the river reaching a record 19.7 feet by Sunday. The highway could become the only link to Myrtle Beach and eastern Horry County as waters continue to rise.

This will give you a good idea of the type of flooding that will be faced following Hurricane Florence. Please continue to keep the brethren who are being impacted by Hurricane Florence in your prayers.

We are praying for those impacted by Hurricane Florence, especially within the Household of Faith. This is a slow-moving storm that is going to pack quite a punch in terms of flooding. Unfortunately, the national news will likely shift its attention elsewhere by the time the real danger of Florence presents itself. Two years ago, Hurricane Matthew flooded many of these same areas and had created damage from which the region has not yet fully recovered. Thus, this was certainly not something that these folks needed to have to deal with again so soon. We ask that you please keep these brethren in your prayers as well.

Andrews church of Christ is having its VBS this week. Over 30 have been in attendance each night, thus far. Given the size of the hosting congregation, that is good. We appreciate so much those small churches that do not give up but which keep trying to make an impact on their local community. I will be blessed with an opportunity to teach the adult class on the final night. If you happen to be in the neighborhood of Cherokee County, North Carolina, you are invited to attend. Enjoy these decorations in their pristine condition.

A wonderful day at the Andrews church of Christ yesterday. I was privileged to assist Peggy Poe in putting on her Lord in baptism after a wonderful day spent in fellowship and singing.

Many in eastern North Carolina and coastal South Carolina were impacted by the floodwaters of Hurricane Matthew. While some were inconvenienced, others had their lives changed, as they lost material possessions that took a lifetime to acquire. More horrible than the loss of property, however, was the loss of life. We understand that things can be replaced. but human life cannot. Therefore, we extend our sympathy to those families still grieving their losses. As is often the case during times of crisis, relief organizations associated with the churches of Christ have stepped up to provide some relief. This disaster was no different. Also, individual Christians and congregations of the Lord's church in North and South Carolina came to the aid of suffering saints.

But individuals were not the only ones impacted by Hurricane Matthew. The buildings of assembly for those in the Lord's church were likewise damaged and flooded too. One such congregation impacted is the South Lumberton church of Christ in Lumberton, NC. When a portion of Lumberton was inundated by the Lumber River, the brethren of the South Lumberton church of Christ saw their building significantly damaged by floodwaters. As they did not have flood insurance, they are unable to quickly rebuild. Brethren, they could use our help.

If you would like to assist the brethren of the South Lumberton church of Christ, please contact George Strickland, a leader within the South Lumberton congregation. (Message this page to receive his contact information.) Brethren, please do not turn your backs on your brethren who are suffering.
