Agender Pride Day | May 19

Today, the Albany Damien Center recognizes Agender Pride Day — a day dedicated to celebrating agender people around the world while raising awareness of the struggles and obstacles they can face living in an often binary world.

Agender is a term that falls under the trans and non-binary umbrellas, usually referring to people who feel they experience no gender identity. While some people use the label to reject any form of gender identity, others feel that “agender” is a gender identity in itself.

The agender flag, created by Salem X on Tumblr in 2014, features seven stripes:
🖤 Black and white represent the absence of gender
🩶 Grey represents those who are semi-genderless
💚 Green represents non-binary genders

Whether you identify as agender or are learning how to be a stronger ally, today is an opportunity to celebrate authenticity, affirm identity, and continue building communities where everyone feels seen, respected, and supported.

If today feels heavy for you, please know you’re not alone.

You don’t need to smile through pain or feel guilty for stepping away from the celebration. Your feelings are valid. Take care of your heart today - whatever that looks like.

And if today is joyful for you, hold your loved ones close and also hold space for those for whom this day is tender.

Sending love in all its forms - wherever you are in your journey.

The disease may be invisible but know that I see your struggle.

Twas a wonderful day with community. Many thanks to all that came out and shared space with The Empire Sisters and honored our beloved Sister Mo Fongo de La Vega who started this tradition last year and suddenly passed just weeks later.
