John 4: 16-26
VOTD
16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I who speak to you am he.”
There are soooooo many different lessons from the woman at the well, which happens to be one of my top 3 stories from the bible. i want to focus on 1 of those, this morning.
Some of you woke up today, feeling “less than” or unworthy. i’m here to tell you that you’re not the sum of your past mistakes… We’re all human, none of us are perfect. you see the woman at the well was a Samaritan and Jews weren’t supposed to associate with them. not only that, instead of picking a disciple or prophet to evangelize for him, he picked this woman. one whom had 5 previous husbands and the one she was with wasn’t one of those… some of you may have woke up sometime in your life believing God has directed you to disciple for him and expand his kingdom… you didn’t believe what you heard or felt because in your mind, you weren’t good enough. I’m here to tell you, that there is never a better time than now and that YOU are worthy. It’s not our job to questions the “why me Lord” it’s our job to recognize it and to move forward. A broken woman with more than 5 husbands and Christ (according to society) who wasn’t even supposed to interact with her, was chosen to make an impact, spread the good news and disciple directly for the almighty.
You are not the sum of your worst mistakes and are MORE than worthy to do His work!
