Tororo Archdiocese had its humble beginnings in 1900 when the Bishop Henry Hanlon of the Vicariate of the Upper Nile, that is; Kampala-Uganda to Nakuru-Kenya made his first contact with the people of Tororo when he visited the Sultan Semei Kakungulu with a hope of establishing a parish. He dispatched Father Gregory Kestens to Sultan Kakungulu with the hope of again establishing a parish in Tororo
area. It was thus that the first parish; Budaka was established in the Tororo area in the year 1901. In visiting this website, you will come to realize that our vision is to have a holy spirit inspired, self ministering, self-governing and self propagating family of God; with a mission to evangelize its family after the mandate of the Lord Jesus Christ to today’s emerging needs. Since 1953, when Tororo was declared a diocese, the Archdiocese of Tororo has had tremendous growth. Today it has 40 parishes compared to 15 it had in 1953, it covers an area of 8,837 square kilometers (3,413 square miles), serves about 665,000 Catholics, it has four hospitals, twelve Maternity/Health care centers, 1 orphanage, 2 homes for the disabled, 1 minor seminary and many schools, both primary and secondary. The Archdiocese of Tororo is bordered by the Dioceses of Jinja in the South West, Moroto in the North and North East, Soroti in the North West and the Republic of Kenya in the East. Though having experienced many developments, the Archdiocese still faces many challenges. We invite you to be part of our mission and growth by rendering us your support; both material and spiritual.
