Not to call any'one father?
According to this verse, Matthew 23:9 Our Lord Jesus says... And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven." NIV"
What!?
Is our Lord intructing us to disregard our fathers on earth?
we look at Ephesians 6:2-3 the word of God again say.. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)
That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.
Looking at that, we can not afford to misunderstand the only commandment with a promise because if we do, then we miss the promise of longlife too.
Beyond biological fathers,
the verse below also seems to pointsout that we should be able to recognize father in the Lord too..
1 Corinthians 4:15
For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
According to these verses and many more throught the scripture, definetly Jesus is not asking us to distegard the position of a father. Actualy in my understanding, It seems like Jesus in Matthew 23:9 is strengthening our understanding of the father relationship Because of its sensitivity and significance in our lives on earth.
Exodus 34:7 which says that God often dose visiting of the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.
With this in mind, it seems like if we call the wrong people father, we may end up taking on their iniquity as their children"
this even sounds like having a father could even lead to generational punishment.
When you look up the definition of this word FATHER', you will find that its defined often as a "title" or form of "address"
In this situation, adress of origin.
With this in mind, Let's try to digest the Matthew 23:9 again.
(And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven.")
With the understanding that your father is your address of origin, where you come from and if there be iniquity or blessings to your adress, it will definetly get you"
Then what is Jesus saying and or not saying in the above verse?
He is not saying that you should not call your dad your father"
But he is saying you should not call ANY MAN your father!
The key word here for me is ANY MAN on earth"
Unless if your crazy but going around calling Any man you see my "father" is wrong! You could end up inheriting generational iniquity.
But recognizing your father the adress of your genesis is key to long life as we see in Ephesians 6:2-3.
In conclusion, don't call just any man father. You may inherit for your children iniquity that you don't even know.
