Dear KIC Family and Friends,

Here is the latest update on our dear friend, Lorna. She is now taking all her food through her mouth which means she is now enjoying the taste of food again! Just the nasty tasting medicines are going through the stomach tube, not just because of the possible bad taste, but also because she cannot eat/swallow hard things such as tablets. The slightly upsetting news, although not unexpected, is that the chemo drug is causing Lorna a few skin problems, lightening, rashes and most annoyingly, mouth ulcers. So the joy of eating is slightly subdued, but with mouth washes and other treatments the doctors hope these will go away or lessen. The next big news will come in mid June when Lorna has to go back to Aga Khan for tests and specialist doctor meetings. We will then know how the cancer is responding to the drugs and what the next few months might hold.

Thanks for your continuing thoughts, prayers and support for Lorna.
On Behalf of Lorna's family, Elizabeth

Dear Friends,

There is exciting news to share! Lorna has now been discharged from hospital! On Saturday, Lorna was given the OK to leave, with all in-patient bills settled - due to your generous and loving support - and on the condition that she visits a local hospital twice a day to ensure that any liquid is sucked from her lungs. She is now with a her Aunt on the outskirts of Nairobi and the local hospital is a specialist Women's hospital, just a short walk from the house.

Lorna has also started chemotherapy. She returns to Aga Khan Hospital next Saturday to have the doctors confirm that all is proceeding as planned. With the tracheal and stomach tubes, life is very different for Lorna, but she remains strong and takes each day as it comes.

You have been so generous and Lorna and Alastair are so grateful. Perhaps the critical moment has past, but Lorna still has a long walk back to full health, therefore they leave the fund open so that they can continue to cover costs as they arise.

The total cost at Aga Kan was about Ksh 2,100,000 - (approx. $21,000 or £15,000). Thank you for assisting in paying this bill and saving Lorna's life. With Sincere Appreciation, Lorna and Alastair

Remember that Joy is not dependent on your circumstances. Some of the world's most miserable people are those whose circumstances seem most enviable.

People who reach the top of the ladder career-wise are often surprised to find emptiness awaiting them. True Joy is a by-product of living in His Presence. Therefore you can experience it in palaces, in prisons...anywhere. Where's yours today?

Dear Friends, thank you for your continued support for Lorna. Total raised now is over £11,000. It has been a tough few days for Lorna through the operations and a realization that she still has some way to go. Today she wrote that she "has hope" and this inner strength will assist the doctors in all they plan to do.
The hospital finance team was met today and Lorna's family has now over spent their original deposit of $10,000 by $5800 and the need for further treatment continues. The money you have given and that of her friends giving through other means, should mean that they can cover this latest bill, but the money for what lies ahead is still required. Please continue to share Lorna's need through your networks. Thank you and I will send you more updates as I receive them from her fiancee and family.

This story is not about me but about my fiancee, Lorna, who is from the Karamoja region of Uganda (see picture). I am British and met Lorna 3 years ago whilst I was working in Karamoja and about a year ago we were engaged. We were planning for our wedding in July this year, but Lorna has been hav...
