Ahithophel was a trusted advisor to David, but during Absalom’s rebellion, he betrayed David and supported the uprising. His counsel was considered extremely wise—almost as if one had “inquired of God” (2 Samuel 16:23)—yet it was used against God’s chosen king.

In many Christian teachings, an “Ahithophel spirit” is used to describe betrayal, destructive counsel, and hidden opposition—often from someone close or trusted.
