Don't be caught unaware.

Starting Saturday, 25th July 2026, Uganda will observe a mandatory National Cleaning Day on the last Saturday of every month, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

During this period, no private cars, boda bodas, or bicycles will be allowed on the roads, except for essential and emergency services. Citizens have been ordered to participate in community clean-up activities (_piida oba bulungi bwansi_)

The death toll from the tragic road crash involving pupils of King David Junior School, which occurred at Kaserem along the Kapchorwa–Mbale Road, has risen to 24 after three more pupils succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash while receiving medical treatment.

As of this evening:

– 24 fatalities have been confirmed.

– 18 bodies have been positively identified.

– 3 unidentified bodies are at Kapchorwa Hospital.

– 3 bodies are at Mbale Hospital.

– 23 victims remain admitted at Kapchorwa Hospital and are receiving treatment.

– All surviving pupils who did not require admission have safely returned to Kampala aboard a Gateway Bus.

The driver of the bus involved in the crash has not yet been formally identified. However, it is believed that he sustained critical injuries and is among the victims receiving treatment in Mbale.

There will also be an election for the Bishop of the Diocese from which the 10th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda will come.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, has today announced Church of Uganda's 2027 Theme:
"Focused Leadership and Integrity in Service" (1 Corinthians 4:1–2).

The announcement was made during the meeting of the Church of Uganda Board of Trustees (Bishops) at Nabugabo Holiday Centre in Masaka District.

The Archbishop also informed the Trustees that the following bishops are scheduled to retire in 2027:
1. Rt Rev. John Wilson Nandaah – Bishop of Mbale Diocese
2. Rt Rev. Amos Magezi – Bishop of North West Ankole Diocese
3. Rt Rev. Patrick Wakula – Bishop of Central Busoga Diocese
4. Rt Rev. Dan Zoreka – Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese
5. Rt Rev. Gaddie Akanjuna – Bishop of Kigezi Diocese
6. The Most Rev. Dr Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu – Archbishop of the Church of Uganda and Bishop of the Diocese of Kampala
7. Rt Rev. Assoc. Prof. Fred Sheldon Mwesigwa – Bishop of Ankole Diocese

There will also be an election for the Bishop of the Diocese from which the 10th Archbishop of the Church of Uganda will come.

Additionally, the Church of Uganda will commemorate 150 years of Christianity in Uganda in 2027.

The Board of Trustees commended Church Commissioners Holding Company Ltd (CCHCL), the business arm of the Church of Uganda, for its remarkable transformation of Nabugabo Holiday Centre into a world-class tourism and conference facility.

The Bishops were given a guided tour of Nabugabo by the Group CEO CCHCL Rev Canon Dr Jasper Mpirirwe Tumuhimbise together with Architect Steven Kasozi and Eng Richard Mugisa.

Church of Uganda acquired Nabugabo land in April 1926.
