THE DILEMMA GOD HAD TO FACE IN DEALING WITH SIN
Our sermon of yesterday focused on revealing how God had to find a way to punish sin without destroying the sinner. God is a God of Justice, and Justice and righteousness are the foundation of His divine authority. To God, the soul that sins must die as it's also written, the wages of sin is death. When man sinned, God couldn't not just ignore or overlook sin or just come out and say I've decided to forgive the sin. He would therefore defy the very foundation he's established his authority upon. At the same time God loved man, however that man was also unable to pay for his sin. The question I believe God asked himself is, how can he therefore execute Justice by punishing sin but also save man, how can he punish the sin without destroying the the sinner. His answer was the Cross, he had to do substitution. God had to be the righteousness and just God and at the same time the justifier of the ungodly. Sin couldn't go unpunished and so the only option, God had to send his son to bear the punishment for the sin of man. He who knew no sin was made sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God.
