THE HOLY TEMPLE OF SAINT NICHOLAS IN AKONYIBEDO , GULU CITY CONSECRATED.

It’s has been a joyful day in our Holy Diocese of Gulu today the 28th of December as the newly constructed Church dedicated to Saint Nicholas is consecrated.

In a congregation of hundreds of faithful, His Eminence Metropolitan Symeon of Fthiotida presided over the consecration mystery together with other Hierarchs of the Orthodox Faith from Africa including; Metropolitan Jeronymos of Kampala, Metropolitan Innocentios of Sozusa and Patriarchal Vicar of Mbarara and western Uganda, Metropolitan Daniel of Accra, Metropolitan Neofitos of Eldoret, Bishop Silvester of Jinja and the host Hierarch Bishop Nektarios of Gulu and Northern Uganda,

Indeed a landmark event was witnessed today, giving hope for the continued growth of the Orthodox Faith in our Diocese, unity, love and glory to our Lord.

During the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, the mystery of ordination was conducted by Metropolitan Symeon where, Deacon Richard Okello was ordained to priesthood.

After inspection of the to be consecrated Church of Saint Nicholas , His Eminence Metropolitan Symeon of Fthiotida and his team visited the Diocese Cathedral dedicated to St Lavrentios in Koro, Gulu city.

This Church, located at the Headquarters of the Diocese of Gulu is undergoing an expansion process in order to accommodate the faithful and be fitting of a Cathedral status.

The guests were treated to entertainment sessions by the Sunday school pupils of the cathedral.

Metropolitan Symeon appreciated the warm welcome, and gave glory to God on behalf of the Diocese of Gulu for having a very good Hierarch (Bishop Nektarios) for a shepherd referring to him as his very good friend and a brother.

Early in the morning, His Eminence Metropolitan of Phthiotis, Mr. Symeon, arrived via Ethiopia at the "Entebbe" airport in Uganda in order to officiate on Sunday at the grand inauguration of the newly built Holy Metropolitan Church of Saint Nicholas in the city of Gulu in Northern Uganda, following the invitation, regular permission and venerable blessing of His Holiness, the Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria, Mr. Theodore.

Celebrating the Feast of the ELEVATION of the HOLY CROSS at the Church of Saint Basil in Gulu City and final day of the Clergy and Catechists Seminar under the Continuing Clergy Education Program.

The Holy liturgy was concelebrated by Bishop Nektarios and Metropolitan Innocentios of Sozusa who presided over the liturgical mystery, together with Abbot Prodoromos of the Saints Praseskevi Monastery in Buyikwe district and clerics of our Diocese.

In commending the efforts to the OCMC who funded the clerics seminar, His Eminece told the faithful that he is a product of the OCMC because its the scholarship from OCMC that helped him study in Holy Cross College in the USA, adding that he never disappointed their efforts, which is being depicted in his current position in serving the mother church in Africa.

The feast of the Holy cross was crowned with the award of certificates of participation to all the participants in the Senior imploring them to take back the message and knowledge received back in their communities and parishes for the better good of the Church and the glory of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Going Forward with our CONTINUING CLERGY EDUCATION SEMINAR.

Today we were yet again blessed with, spiritually motivated and Orthodox-directed presentation from His Grace Neofitos of Eldoret regarding the image of a priest in society.

In a special way, the participants were as well treated to mind-blowing and deeply rooted presentation from His Eminence Metropolitan Jeronymos Muzeeyi of Kampala who upon the invitation of the His Grace Nektarios deliberated on the history of our Orthodox Faith, it’s germination in Uganda and East Africa in general.

As a self assessment from the participants, His Eminence, through individual responses from the praticpants tracing their roots to the Orthodox Faith, the different challenges faced so far and approaches to making known the orthodox Faith from their respective areas operations tasking them to take lead in putting right all situations to have our Mother church flourish.
