I never thought I would be saying this...
10 of us are going to Uganda this summer! We are everyday people partnering with Align International in hopes of making a difference. We will greatly yearn for the daily comforts that we take for granted every day. Us adults, and children alike, will experience the differences between a child's life where we live and a child's life in Uganda. No matter wha
t, we are going to muster up the strength to leave our comfort zone for the challenges that lie ahead in this different culture. Uganda stats (that astound me):
Median age is 15 years old; Life expectancy is 54 years old.
100+ multi-aged kids in a public school class.
1/2 million kids annually drop out of elementary school.
200 people/day are dying from AIDS; 2 million orphans due to AIDS.
100,000 annual deaths from Malaria - eradicated in US in 1951. Align International's mission is to make some type of change in the next generation of Uganda children. Opening new private schools with only 45 kids in a class. Churches being built to spread hope. Farms being created with the goal of the villages being self-sustaining. The Herr family from Orange County has been partnering with the village of Bombo, Uganda for 10 years. The Jackson family from Palos Verdes joined their efforts a few years ago. Their mission has been blessed to include additional locations. We will be there in August for 2 weeks to visit with the next generation of Uganda children and do whatever is put before us to help. We are a teacher, a musician, a seamstress...and we all hope our experiences can be of some use to a 3rd-world village. Ways to support:
