I am SO EXCITED to tell you about PEACEHAVEN, my new ministry: a special retreat guesthouse for missionaries and those in ministry, on beautiful Zanzibar Island, Tanzania. I have now moved to Zanzibar from Arusha to pursue the vision God has given me! I love this passage from Psalm 107 and it is an inspiration for PEACEHAVEN:
“Then they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and He brought them out of their distress. He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and He guided them to their desired (PEACE)HAVEN.” Psalm 107:28-30
I’ve dedicated my life to God’s work as a missionary the last 20+ years. I love it and Him and would not want to do anything else!! And I’m not finished yet—I have much more work to do!! From teaching the Bible to folks of all ages, training kids’ teachers and even teaching pastors, my ministry has been from bush to village to city, from the mountains to the seas! And now to the Islands!! Through the years I’ve always opened my home to so many missionaries, folks in ministry and others. I’m from Louisiana! Hospitality is the Southern way of life there and I’m in the Southern Hemisphere here! (And yes, of course, wherever I am and there are KIDS, there WILL be singing and Bible stories…)
As not only a missionary, but also a mental health professional by education and experience, I’ve helped, counseled and encouraged folks of all ages and many cultures. Current research from Missionary Pastoral Care professionals shows that 60% of missionaries who go back to the USA (or home country) for mental health care never return to the mission field!! That’s too many!! We need to give them a safe, peaceful, affordable place to rest ON OR NEAR THEIR MISSION FIELD before they are in burnout or crisis or worse!
PEACEHAVEN will be a BnB where I will offer an affordable place for missionaries and those in ministry, both locally and beyond— for rests, vacations, safe meeting spaces, etc. With help from professionals from East Africa, the USA, the UK and more (including specialized mission teams), I will host restorative retreats, debriefing opportunities and even crisis/emergency services to those who need it. I’d love a place like the one in these pictures!!
By giving, you will be investing in God’s work around the world and helping me provide refuge, rest and mental health resources to those in full-time ministry!! Think of all the ministries you will touch—the lives you will touch and the Kingdom work you will help do through the lives of those who come to PEACEHAVEN! Now that’s definitely direct Gospel work and a Biblical model: supporting God’s workers!!!
NOW I am in Zanzibar, ACTIVELY LOOKING for the right place for PEACEHAVEN! Here, a year rental contract must be paid in advance and with rent of $800-1000, so up to $12,000 is needed ASAP. Hopefully, it will be a property that is listed on Air BnB, Booking.cøm and other sites so that it already has high ratings, good reviews and a solid clientele base!! That way, to supplement the budget when it’s not reserved for ministry workers, it will be open to regular customers! And it will always be a place of rest— a PEACEHAVEN for all!
As I have sold 95% of my things (furniture, appliances, kitchen items—and my truck!!), I also need to buy an affordable used car and some other things. So right now, my initial total budget is $20,000. Therefore, I am ACTIVELY SEEKING DONORS AND FUNDS!! I KNOW we can raise that $20k! I have seen God do it in my life and ministry in the past!
