“We do not grieve as others do, who have no hope.” — 1 Thessalonians 4:13

On August 14, GBC EC gathered with Linda, her family, and friends to remember and give thanks for the life of her beloved husband, Tom.

Tom often accompanied Linda to church and joined our gatherings even though he was not yet a believer. However, a few weeks before he passed away, Tom placed his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. This is a precious source of comfort and hope for Linda and all of us who mourn his passing.

During the service, Linda shared about Tom’s loving and generous heart, the many ways he cared for her, and the precious memories she will carry with her. She also testified to God’s faithfulness and the hope she has in Christ as she shared from John 11:25 – Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in Me will live, even though they die.”

We grieve because we miss Tom deeply, but we grieve with hope—trusting in the promise of Christ and looking forward to the day when we will be reunited with our Savior.

Please continue to pray for Linda and her family as they walk through this long journey of grief and healing. May they experience the Lord as their refuge and strength, and may the hope of the gospel sustain them each day.

God’s Word Equipping Us to Care for One Another

On July 18, we hosted a full-day Biblical Counseling Seminar. More than half of those who attended are ministry leaders or brothers and sisters serving in various ministries. We pray that what they learned from God’s Word will help them care for others with Christlike wisdom, compassion, and truth.

Leading the seminar was Foua, a former GBC member baptized here in 2009 who served faithfully in our church before starting seminary studies in 2020. Having earned her Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling in 2023, Foua is now serving the Lord in Europe. We thank God that He is faithful in preparing and sending His servants.

An amazing week of God’s grace!

From July 6–11, GBC held its annual Vacation Bible School – this year: “In the Wild”. We thank God for the more than 160 children who participated, including over 80 children from non-Christian families as well as children from AWANA. Our thanks also to the many brothers and sisters from the English Congregation who joyfully served.

During the first four days, the children learned about God’s love through Bible stories, songs, crafts, and games and, although Typhoon Bavi forced us to cancel Day 5 and the Family Day, we are grateful for God’s protection over everyone throughout the week.

We trust that His Word, planted in the hearts of the children, will continue to bear fruit in His perfect timing.

Today, we joyfully commissioned our Mission Team during our morning worship service as they prepare to serve at a Vacation Bible School (VBS) in Europe.
Beginning on July 24, our team will partner with coworkers from different parts of the world to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with children and their families through Bible stories, music, crafts, games, and fellowship.
This video introduces our team minister, leader, and members serving in different VBS sites. As they go in obedience to Christ’s Great Commission, we invite you to pray for them:
🙏 Safe travels and good health
🙏 Unity, wisdom, and strength as they serve together
🙏 Open hearts among the children and families they will meet, that many would come to know the love and saving grace of Jesus Christ

What changes when we truly understand the gospel?
For María José, baptism once felt like an obligation—a box to check in hopes of being accepted by God.
Years later, after coming to know Christ more deeply, she chose to be baptized again—not to earn salvation, but to publicly proclaim the grace she had already received.
Baptism is not the beginning of God’s love for us.
It is our response to the love He has already shown through Jesus Christ.
We pray that her testimony encourages you as much as it has encouraged our church family.

The GBC EC family rejoices as one brother and three sisters publicly proclaimed their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism before the congregation on June 28.

We thank God for His saving grace in each of their lives and for the joy of witnessing this special milestone together as a church family. May the Lord continue to strengthen them in their walk with Christ, and may they carry the fragrance of Jesus wherever He leads them.

The Friday Students (and Staff) Conversation Group concluded its semester this past Friday. We had a fruitful semester together, watching and discussing the movie “All Saints”. Pastor Nick wrapped up the semester with a lesson on “What Christians Believe”.
We are grateful for the friendships, conversations, and learning we shared this semester, and we can’t wait to reconnect in September!

GBC was founded by faithful missionaries more than 70 years ago. We are grateful for God’s people who obeyed His command to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to the ends of the earth, so we set aside an annual Mission Sunday—to learn more about missions and to renew our commitment to obey Christ’s command to make disciples of all nations.

The English Congregation has been blessed in a special way. We have the privilege of worshipping God alongside brothers and sisters from many different nations—a foretaste of worship before God’s throne:
“After this I looked, and behold, a great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, clothed in white robes, with palm branches in their hands, and crying out with a loud voice, ‘Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!’” — Revelation 7:9–10

It begins with God revealing Himself
and inviting us into fellowship with Him.

To truly know God is not merely to gain information—
it is to have your entire understanding of life transformed.

It is a relationship initiated by God Himself.
He speaks.
He reveals.
He invites.

And we are called not just to have knowledge —
but to listen, to respond, and to walk with Him.
