潮音寺は、1944年8月にバシー海峡付近にて、玉津丸が撃沈された後、１２日もの間漂流し、まさに九死に一生を得た故中嶋秀次氏（２０１３年１０月、９２歳で死去）が１９８１年にその半生と私財を投じ、この海峡で戦死した戦友たちのために建立した台湾最南端の猫鼻頭に位置するお寺です。
