The 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to cling to God and his commandments and not to human traditions only as passing experiences. "You disregard God's commandments but cling to human traditions." Mk 7:8. Jesus is not saying that human tradition is incorrect he is challenging how the Pharisees added many things to the Torah, lots of purity laws and such and Jesus frequently rebuked them for it. The basic commandment is above all "love", It is so easy to create unnecessary traditions to burden others without living the basic one of Love. When we achieve the first of all the commandments, there is no need to add unnecessary traditions. We pray that we show and express the commandments of Love one another in all our activities as I have loved you.

The 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time invites us to seek allegiances that will last and give us life. In the gospel of this Sunday Jesus offers us today a great lesson from his life. Whatever the conditions of our life, trials and temptations, worries and fears, in God we find Spirit and life. Jesus then said to the Twelve, "Do you want to leave?"Peter, replied, Master, to whom shall we go, Lord, You have the words of Eternal Life. John 6:67-68 How do we see this being lived out in our daily life, within our families, at work, at social gatherings, in our educational journey and even in the Church? We are called to seek our our Lord in all our discernments and decisions allowing time for silence and prayer. Let us ask God for the grace to seek him in all that we do.

The Gospel of the 19th Sunday in Ordinary Time shares with us the tenderness of Jesus to the crowd and their needs. Moved by compassion Jesus comes to us that will never be hungry; he who believes in me will never thirst. (John 6:24-35). The invitation in the gospel calls us to share what we have with others. This teaching movement touches our human nature that we are one human family called to share in the attributes of Jesus.

The Beatitudes are at the heart of Jesus' preaching. They take
up the promises made to the chosen people since Abraham.
The Beatitudes fulfill the promises by ordering them no longer
merely to the possession of a territory, but to the Kingdom of
heaven. (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 1716)
1. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of
heaven.
(Be satisfied with what you have. Share the good things
we have with others because God wants us to.)
2. Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.
(Comfort those who are suffering. Help others feel better
about themselves after a loss.)
3. Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the land.
(Humility-a true sense of who you are. Get the ego out of
the way.)
4. Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they will be satisfied.
(Do what is fair for everyone. Think What would Jesus
do?)
5. Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
(We forgive those who are unkind to us. Look for ways to
show kindness to others.)
6. Blessed are the clean of heart, for they will see God.
(We do what is right just because we know it is the right
thing to do.)
7. Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called
children of God.
(We try to bring God’s peace to the world. We control our
behaviour so people can see Jesus in us.)
8. Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of
righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
(We are willing to stand up for God’s laws even if we are
teased or insulted.)

Today the Church Celebrates the memorial of St. Alphonsus Liguori, CSsR. Bishop, Doctor of the Church, Patron Saint of Arthritis, Confessors, Moralists, Former Lawyer, Ordained near 30 years old. Founder of the Redemptorists Order (Since 1732, the Redemptorists — a congregation of missionary priests and brothers — have followed in Jesus’ footsteps, preaching the Word and serving the poor and most abandoned.) Composer, Musician, Poet, Author, Scholastic philosopher, and theologian.

Died at the age of 90 on August 1, 1787, St. Alphonsus Liguori was the patron saint of moral theologians because of his brilliance; he is also the patron saint of the work of laypeople because of his productivity. We pray for the Redemptorist Family worldwide that they continue to inspire others in following Christ in the way of St. Alphonsus Liguori.

Today the Church Celebrates the memorial of St. Ignatius of Loyola, SJ. A patron saint for difficult times. St. Ignatius is a great patron for people facing difficult times. Whether making hard choices, recovering from unexpected events, going through physical sickness or spiritual darkness, Ignatius of Loyola faced a similar situation.
Ignatius Loyola was beatified by Pope Paul V in 1609 and canonized by Pope Gregory XV in 1622. In 1922 he was declared patron of all spiritual retreats by Pope Pius XI, and he is also considered a patron of soldiers. We pray for the Jesuit Family throughout the World that they will continue to inspire others in the way of Ignatius in the following of Christ.

Today the Church Celebrates the memorial of Sts. Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. There are no mentions of them in the Bible or Gospels, what we know comes from Catholic legend and the Gospel of James, an unsanctioned, apocryphal writing from the second century AD. We know from scholarship that the Gospel of James was not written by James, the Brother of Jesus, despite its claim to be so authored.

Today the Church celebrates St. James the Apostle. James the Great was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus. According to the New Testament, he was the second of the apostles to die, and the first to be martyred. Saint James is the patron saint of Spain and, according to tradition, his remains are held in Santiago de Compostela in Galicia. St. James is the patron saint of pilgrims, soldiers, veterinarians, pharmacists, and people with arthritis.

Today the Church celebrates the memorial of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Our Lady of Mount Carmel, or Virgin of Carmel, is the title given to the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as patroness of the Carmelite Order, particularly within the Catholic Church. The first Carmelites were Christian hermits living on Mount Carmel in the Holy Land during the late 12th and early to mid-13th century. They built in their hermitages a chapel dedicated to the Blessed Virgin, whom they conceived of in chivalric terms as the "Lady of the place." Our Lady of Mount Carmel was adopted in the 19th century as the patron saint of Chile. We pray for the Carmelite Order and vocations to the Carmelite Family.

Today the church celebrates the memorial of St. Bonaventure, OFM. St. Bonaventure is one of the major figures in the history of the Franciscan Friars. He was major philosopher and theologian of his day – a contemporary of St. Thomas Aquinas – both of them holding the “chairs” of Regents at the University of Paris at the same time. Like Thomas, Bonaventure was also a prolific writer and thinker, his works covering the range of theology, scripture, liturgy, music, the arts, and more. Unlike Thomas, Bonaventure was called away from the academic life in 1257, when he was elected to be Minister General of the Franciscan Order. In 1273, he was elevated to Cardinal and assigned the task of reconciling the Roman Catholic (western) and Byzantine-Greek Orthodox (eastern) churches – a task almost completed at the Council of Lyon in 1274. Sadly, Bonaventure became ill during the Council and died on July 15, 1274.
