With hearts full of gratitude, we bid farewell to The Most Reverend Philip S. Wright, Archbishop, Primate and Metropolitan of the Church in the Province of the West Indies, following his first official Provincial Visit which he made to Trinidad and Tobago.

Over the past several days, Archbishop Wright blessed our Diocese through his presence, fellowship, pastoral care, and ministry. We were especially honoured to welcome him as the Guest of Honour and Preacher at our recent Diocesan Family Day, where his message inspired and encouraged us as we continue our mission as the Body of Christ in a hurting society.

His visit provided opportunities to connect with our clergy, schools, institutions, national leaders, and faithful across the Diocese, strengthening the bonds that unite us as one Church in Christ.

As Archbishop Wright returns home, we give thanks to God for his leadership and ministry and pray for God's continued guidance, protection, and abundant blessings upon him and his family.

"The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn His face toward you and give you peace." — Numbers 6:24-26

Thank you, Archbishop Wright, for your visit, your witness, and your ministry among us. May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you always.

Safe travels and God's richest blessings until we meet again.

Today is Ascension Day, when the Church celebrates the risen Christ returning to the Father.

In the Gospel, Jesus blesses his disciples and is taken from their sight. This is not an ending, but a new beginning. Christ’s ascension affirms his authority and points to his continuing presence, as the disciples are sent out with joy to bear witness to what they have seen.

Ascension Day reminds us that Christ reigns with God and calls us to live as his witnesses in the world.

Scripture reading: Luke 24:50–51, 52–53

‘Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and, lifting up his hands, he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.

And they worshipped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy; and they were continually in the temple blessing God.’

Prayer

Risen and ascended Lord,
you reign in glory and fill all things with your presence.
Lift our hearts to where you are,
and strengthen us to bear witness to your love.
Send us out in joy and faith,
to serve you in the world you came to save.

Amen.

As the day comes to an end, Holy Week invites us into silence—to look not only at Christ, but at ourselves. Today’s Gospel places before us a powerful contrast: a soul that loves, and a soul that betrays. In Bethany, one kneels in humility; another stands in calculation. One gives everything; the other begins to take.

Mary offers what is most precious. She does not measure, she does not hold back. She pours out costly ointment upon the feet of Our Lord, wiping them with her hair—a gesture of deep love, humility, and repentance. Her act fills the house with fragrance, a sign of a soul completely surrendered to God.

But beside her stands Judas. He speaks of charity, but his heart is elsewhere. He questions the act, not out of concern for the poor, but because he is attached to money. This is how sin often begins—not in great betrayal, but in small attachments that slowly turn the heart away from God.

Two souls. Two paths.

Mary teaches us that true love for Christ is shown not in words, but in sacrifice. Judas warns us that even those close to Christ can fall if they allow sin to take root. The difference is not in opportunity—but in the condition of the heart.

Tonight, we are asked to choose.

Do we give our best to God, or do we hold back? Do we love Christ sincerely, or do we remain attached to what separates us from Him?

Holy Week is not just a remembrance—it is a call to conversion. Like Mary, we are invited to come before Our Lord with humility, to pour out our sins in Confession, and to offer our lives in love.
