Prakaash Purab Sri Guru HarGobind Ji

Sri Guru HarGobind Ji occupies a special place in history because, after Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji’s martyrdom, He gave a new direction to the course of events. Along with His spiritual authority, He exercised temporal authority too by expounding the concept of Miri and Piri (the temporal and the spiritual).

At His succession ceremony, He put on two swords: Miri and Piri. The sword of Miri was to smite the oppressor (temporal authority) and the sword of Piri was to protect the innocent (spiritual authority). He declared that henceforth in the Guru’s house, spiritual and temporal powers would be combined. It was the beginning of militarism and the transformation of Sikhism.

*In 1606, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir ordered that Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji, be tortured and sentenced to death after Guru Ji had refused to stop preaching his message of Vaheguru as started by Sri Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
*Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji was the first Sikh Guru to be martyred.
*Guru Ji is revered as Shaheedan-De-Sartaaj or the Crown of Martyrs.
