The mission of Santa Margaret Maria Alacoque
In 1647, when Santa Margaret Maria was born, the devotion to the Sacred Heart was not very well known, although it already existed. His mission was to give him a boost and a universal spread, to need his spirit, to adapt to the needs of the Church in modern times and to fix the piety practices that are best suited to the new circumstances.
Santa Margaret Maria was a simple nun who never transposed the walls of her convent and died before she turned 45, in 1690. Providence so pleased to make an immense design from a humble religious who, for fleeing the world, had retired to an obscure convent of the Visitation Order and led a life erased in the eyes of men and even the visiting nuns with whom he lived.
The painting today is completely diverse. Ornate of the Visitation Order, the religious then erased was elevated to the apex of glory in the Church and, from the high altars, from her holiness fires rays of salvation to the whole earth, while most famous and important men of her time are unknown to the our contemporaries.
Pope Pius XII, after making the list of the Saints who stood out in practice and diffusion of devotion to the Heart of Jesus, says in this respect: ′′ But among all the promoters of this excellent devotion, deserves a special place Santa Margarida Maria Alacoque that , with the help of his spiritual director, the Beato Cláudio de la Colombière (today saint) and with his burning zeal, obtained, not without the admiration of the faithful, that this cult acquired great development and, coated with the characteristics of love and of repair, distinguished from other forms of Christian piety."

A missão de Santa Margarida Maria Alacoque
Em 1647, quando nasceu Santa Margarida Maria, a devoção ao Sagrado Coração não era muito conhecida, se bem que já existia. A sua missão foi dar-lhe um impulso e uma difusão universal, precisar o seu espírito, adapta-lo às necessidades da Igreja nos tempos modernos e fixar as práticas de piedade mais adequadas às novas circunstâncias.
Santa Margarida Maria foi uma simples freira que nunca transpôs os muros do seu convento e morreu antes de completar 45 anos, em 1690. A Providência compraz-se deste modo em realizar um desígnio imenso a partir de uma humilde religiosa que, para fugir do mundo, tinha-se retirado a um obscuro convento da Ordem da Visitação e levou ali uma vida apagada aos olhos dos homens e até das freiras visitandinas com as quais convivia.
O quadro hoje é completamente diverso. Ornato da Ordem da Visitação, a religiosa então apagada foi elevada ao ápice de glória na Igreja e, do alto dos altares, da sua santidade despede raios de salvação à terra inteira, enquanto a maioria dos homens famosos e importantes da sua época são desconhecidos pelos nossos contemporâneos.
O Papa Pio XII, depois de fazer a lista dos Santos que se destacaram na prática e difusão da devoção ao Coração de Jesus, diz a este propósito: “Mas entre todos os promotores desta excelsa devoção, merece um lugar especial Santa Margarida Maria Alacoque que, com a ajuda do seu director espiritual, o Beato Cláudio de la Colombière (hoje santo) e com o seu zelo ardente, obteve, não sem a admiração dos fiéis, que este culto adquirisse um grande desenvolvimento e, revestido das características do amor e da reparação, se distinguisse das demais formas da piedade cristã.” (Encíclica Haurietis Aquas, 49)
