Faith is not always about mountain-top moments. Sometimes it’s about surviving the valleys—the seasons when your soul feels weary, when prayer feels heavy, when reading scripture feels distant, and when even lifting your heart to God feels like too much.
We don’t often talk about it, but these moments are real. You want to be close to God, yet exhaustion, grief, anxiety, or discouragement seem to drain every bit of strength. You may even feel guilty for struggling, as if God expects you to always be strong, always be faithful, always be “on fire.” But the truth is—God knows you. He knows your weakness. He knows your limits. And His love is not dependent on your energy level.
In fact, some of the most beautiful prayers are the simplest ones whispered from a tired heart: “Please God, stay close to me when I don’t have the energy to stay close to You.” That small, honest cry is enough. Because closeness with God isn’t something you achieve—it’s something He sustains.
Scripture reminds us: “He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.” (Isaiah 40:29). God doesn’t demand your perfection—He offers His presence. Even when you feel too tired to reach for Him, He reaches for you. Even when you can’t find the words, He understands your silence. Even when your faith feels dim, His love burns steady.
So let this be your prayer today:
“Please God, stay close to me when I don’t have the energy to stay close to You. Hold me when I feel too weak to stand. Remind me that Your love is not earned by my effort, but given freely by Your grace. Even in my weariness, help me rest in the truth that You will never leave me nor forsake me.”
God’s nearness isn’t fragile. It doesn’t fade when your energy does. He stays close—steady, patient, loving—until your strength returns. And sometimes, the holiest thing you can do is simply rest in His presence, letting Him carry you when you can’t carry yourself.
Because even when you feel distant, He has never been closer.
