TOMORROW IS LAETARE SUNDAY

Laetare Sunday is the Fourth Sunday of Lent, a unique moment in the Lenten season when the Church calls the faithful to rejoice. The name comes from the Latin word Laetare, which means “Rejoice,” taken from the entrance antiphon of the Mass that begins with the words:

“Rejoice, O Jerusalem.”

Although Lent is marked by prayer, fasting, and repentance, this Sunday reminds us that the joy of Easter is drawing closer. It serves as a brief pause in the Lenten journey, encouraging us to continue with renewed hope and confidence.

On this day, the priest may wear rose colored vestments, one of the rarest liturgical colors in the Church. This gentle color represents joy shining through the penitential purple of Lent. It is a visible reminder that our sacrifices and spiritual efforts are leading us toward the joy of the Resurrection.

On the 100 Years of Christian Witness in Dem Zubeir, atholic Diocese of Wau
Your Excellency,
Mathew Remijio Adam,
Clergy, Religious and Lay Faithful of the Catholic Diocese of Wau,
Grace and peace in Our Lord Jesus Christ.
With profound joy and heartfelt gratitude to Almighty God, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio warmly congratulates you on the noble celebration of 100 years of witnessing to God in Dem Zubeir. This centenary is not merely a remembrance of time past, but a powerful witnessing of faith, perseverance, sacrifice, and divine providence.
Dem Zubeir stands as an historic city in the Christian heritage of our land. It is sacred ground watered by missionary zeal, the prayers of catechists, and the faith of generations who carried the Gospel through seasons of light and darkness.
Yet, this same town also witnessed some of the darkest chapters of human history. Many of our people were enslaved there under the brutal and ruthless slave trader known historically as Zubeir Pasha, remembered in our community as Ziibiri. Among those affected was the great King Gbudue, who endured captivity before his courageous escape and subsequent struggle for the liberation and dignity of his people.
Today, what was once a place marked by suffering has become a sign of faith. The Cross of Christ has transformed history. Where chains once bound our ancestors, the Gospel now proclaims freedom. Where tears once fell, praise now rises to heaven.
As you celebrate this centenary, may the prayers being offered renew not only your local Church but our entire nation. May this jubilee year become a prophetic sign of reconciliation, healing, justice, and total peace for South Sudan.
Your Excellency Bishop Remijio, may the Lord bless and strengthen you in your apostolic ministry. May your leadership continue to guide the Diocese of Wau into deeper communion, missionary vitality, and courageous witness.
Once more, with fraternal affection, the Catholic Diocese of Tombura–Yambio, born from Wau, greets and compliments you all.
May the next century shine even brighter in faith, hope, and love.

We will be welcoming His Eminence Dr. Stephen Cardinal Amiyo Martin from Juba in celebration of the Centenary of Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Deim Zubeir, which will be commemorated on Sunday, 15th February 2026.

Following the arrival, the procession will proceed from the Airport to St. Mary's Help of Christians Cathedral.

Your presence and participation are highly encouraged to honor this significant occasion!

#عن لقب "رئيس الاساقفة "

✍️الاب جون لوبوكا

في القانون الكنسي (خاصة في الكنيسة الكاثوليكية)، يُعتبر رئيس الأساقفة (Archbishop) رتبة إدارية وروحية رفيعة، وهو أسقف يترأس أبرشية ذات أهمية خاصة تُسمى "رئاسة أسقفية" أو "أبرشية متروبوليتية".
​إليكم التفاصيل الجوهرية لمعنى هذا اللقب ودوره:

​1. المكانة القانونية والروحية

​من الناحية الطقسية، يمتلك رئيس الأساقفة نفس "درجة الكهنوت" التي يمتلكها الأسقف العادي؛ فلا توجد سيامة سرية خاصة ليصبح الشخص رئيس أساقفة. الفرق يكمن في السلطة الإدارية والنطاق الرعوي.

​2. أنواع رؤساء الأساقفة

​يصنف القانون الكنسي رؤساء الأساقفة إلى فئات، أهمها:

- ​رئيس الأساقفة المتروبوليت (Metropolitan): وهو الذي يترأس "ولاية كنسية" تضم عدة أبرشيات. تتبعه أبرشيات أصغر تُسمى "الأبرشيات المنتسبة" (Suffragan dioceses).

- ​رئيس الأساقفة اللقبي (Titular): هو شخص يُمنح اللقب تكريماً له أو لأنه يشغل منصباً في الإدارة المركزية للكنيسة (مثل السفراء البابويين)، لكنه لا يدير أبرشية فعلية على الأرض.

- ​رئيس الأساقفة "أد بيرسونام" (Ad personam): لقب يمنحه البابا لأسقف معين بشكل شخصي تقديراً لجهوده، دون أن تتحول أبرشيته إلى رئاسة أسقفية.

​3. الصلاحيات والمسؤوليات

​رئيس الأساقفة المتروبوليت له أدوار محددة تجاه الأبرشيات التابعة له، منها:

- ​السهر على الإيمان: التأكد من الحفاظ على العقيدة والنظام الكنسي في الأبرشيات المنتسبة له.

- ​الإبلاغ عن التجاوزات: في حال وجود تقصير من أسقف محلي، يرفع الأمر للكرسي الرسولي (الفاتيكان).

- ​الدعوة للمجالس الإقليمية: له الحق في عقد اجتماعات لأساقفة منطقته للتشاور.

​4. الرموز المميزة

​يتميز رئيس الأساقفة المتروبوليت بارتداء "الباليوم" (Pallium)، وهو شريط صوفي أبيض يوضع حول الرقبة يمنحه إياه البابا شخصياً، ويرمز إلى سلطته واتحاده مع خليفة بطرس.

​ملاحظة: في الكنائس الأرثوذكسية والشرقية، قد يختلف المفهوم قليلاً، حيث يُعتبر "المتروبوليت" أحياناً رتبة أعلى من رئيس الأساقفة، أو العكس حسب نظام كل كنيسة (سواء كانت يونانية أو أنطاكية أو غيرها).

2/ يوم 13/2/2026 قداس المرسلين و الشهداء المبشرين (المبشر الكبير باتيستا موفيقي) الساعة ٩:٣٠ صباحاً يترأس القداس نيافة المطران ماتيو ريميجو.
٣/ البروفة الختامية لقداس المئوية الساعة 3 ظهراً بساحة الرعية.
٤/ سهرة السجود أمام القربان الأقدس يبداء من الساعة الثامنة مساءا حتي منتصف الليل.

٩/ الساعة ٣ ظهراً البرنامج الثقافي مع العديد من الفقرات الفنية والغنائية والمسرحية.

ON 12/2 February 2926 Welcoming of His Lordship Bishop Matthew at Our Lady of Mercy Parish, Deim Zubair.

On 13/2/2026, Mass for the Missionaries and Martyrs (Great Missionary Battista Mofegi) will be celebrated at 9:30 AM, presided over by His Lordship Bishop Matthew Remijio.
3. Final rehearsal for the Centenary Mass will be held at 3:00 PM in the parish .

4. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will begin at 8:00 PM and continue until midnight.

5. On February 14, 2026, public confessions will be held for all the faithful from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.

6. Welcoming of His Eminence Stephen Ameyu CARDINAL Mulla Archbishop of Catholic Archdiocese of Juba in Deim Zubeir at 1:00 PM.
7/ At 4:00 PM, a lecture on stages of spiritual growth for of Our Lady of Mercy Parish by His Lordship Bishop Matthew Remijio Adam.

8/ February 15, 2026, centenary celebration . The Mass will be presided over by His Eminence Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla, Archbishop of Juba, at 10:00 AM.

9/ At 3:00 PM, a cultural program will be held featuring various artistic, musical, and theatrical performances
