Pictorial.
These are some of the moments captured during the Catechists’ Training Program of the two parishes: St. Martin De Porres and Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.
The training began on Monday and ended today. It focused on capacity building in several key areas, including:
• Conflict Management and Resolution
• Liturgy
• Catholic Social Teaching
• Small Christian Communities (SCCs)
• Other pastoral activities
The Bishop also attended the training and participated actively in the sessions alongside the catechists. It was a truly enriching and inspiring experience for everyone.
It was concluded with the Holy Mass.

Dear Deacon Oliver Kambale,

Peace to you in the name of Jesus our Lord.

We, the Catholic faithful of Leer, welcome you with joy among us as you come to serve as a deacon in our land. You are young, and many of us are also young in faith, still learning how to walk together as one family of God after years of war, displacement, hunger, and fear.

Our villages have known suffering. Many families have lost loved ones. Many children have grown up hearing gunshots more than church bells. Some of us have forgotten how to trust. Others carry wounds in the heart that nobody sees. Yet we continue to gather under trees, in simple chapels, and in flooded lands to pray, sing, and listen to the Word of God. Faith has kept us alive.
As you come among us, we do not ask first for great projects or many things. We ask you to stay close to the people.

Walk with us. Sit with the elders. Listen to the cries of mothers. Play with the children. Visit the sick and those who feel forgotten. Cross the muddy roads to reach the Christian communities and chapels. Do not become only a man of the altar, but also a brother who knows the smell of the cattle camps, the tears of widows, and the hopes of the youth.

Teach us the Gospel in a way that enters our hearts and our Nuer culture. Help us to see that Christ is not far from our lives, but walks among our huts and our suffering. Teach our young people that strength is not violence, and that a true man is one who protects life, reconciles enemies, and respects women and the weak.

Help our families to grow in love and forgiveness. Many divisions still exist among clans, generations, and communities. We ask you to encourage peace and reconciliation, not only with words, but with your example. When people see your patience, humility, and joy, they will believe more easily in the God you preach.

Pray with us and for us. Sometimes we feel abandoned by the world. But when the Church remains with us, we know that God has not forgotten Leer.

Help our catechists and animate the small Christian communities, because they are the heart of the Church in our villages. Encourage the women, who carry much of the faith on their shoulders. Guide the youth, who are tempted by despair, revenge, and hopelessness. Remind them that they are precious in the eyes of God and that South Sudan can still have a future.

Do not be afraid to speak the truth with courage, but always with love. We do not expect you to be perfect. We only ask you to be faithful, simple, and near to the people.

And please, do not serve us as someone above us. Serve among us. Let your ministry be like the Nile water: bringing life quietly wherever it passes.

We promise to pray for you, protect you, and walk together with you. Your vocation is now also part of our story.

May the Lord who called you make your heart strong and compassionate. May the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Daniel Comboni accompany your mission among the people of Leer.

Your brothers and sisters in Christ,
The Catholic Community of Leer
Unity State, South Sudan.

In the Gospel of today, Jesus does not make easy promises. He says clearly: “If the world hates you, remember that it hated me first."

These words are very close to the experience of many Christians in the Diocese of Bentiu. Faith here is not something comfortable or decorative. It is something that must survive conflict, displacement, tribal divisions, fear, revenge, and the temptation to seek power through violence.

Confirmation is not simply a celebration. It is not only receiving a certificate or becoming “adult Christians.” It is receiving the courage of the Holy Spirit to remain faithful when following Christ becomes difficult.

Today the Church asks the confirmands:
Are you ready to belong to Christ even when the Gospel goes against the mentality around you? Because the Gospel asks us to go against the grain.

In some traditions, people are respected because they are feared. Jesus says: blessed are the peacemakers. In some cultures, a man proves himself through domination, revenge, or control. Jesus washes the feet of others. In political life, many struggle for visibility, influence, and power. But in the Gospel, the truly relevant people are not the loudest or the strongest. The truly relevant people are those who remain human in an inhuman situation. Those who protect life. Those who forgive. Those who refuse corruption. Those who tell the truth. Those who stay close to the poor and forgotten.

A Christian filled with the Spirit may appear weak in the eyes of the world, but before God such a person is great.
